My Future Career: Why I Want to Become a Phlebotomist

Introduction

My future career goal is to be a phlebotomist. Phlebotomists draw and prepare blood for medical testing, transfusion or donation. They are trained to collect blood via venipuncture, finger pricks, etc. They work in hospitals, clinics, outpatient care facilities, laboratories and blood donation centers. Phlebotomy is an excellent opportunity for anyone who can handle being around blood, needles, and likes working with people.

Although it can be considered an entry-level career, I feel that is a better option than other careers.

The Reasons Why I Want to Become a Phlebotomist

I want to become a phlebotomist because I like helping and working with people. At my previous job, I was a Patient Care Technician and drew blood as one of my job duties. I became good at it and I have adored doing it ever since. Patients used to tell me that I would not be able to draw their blood because they either did not have any veins, or I would not be able to find it.

Working in the medical field you need to have people skills no matter what. Pay attention to detail have an ability to be a part of a team standing on your feet for hours at a time which is very hard to do. Must be patient and compassionate for what you do. Phlebotomy can influence my education and goal setting by continuing going to school, so I can have knowledge that I can get there is never enough education. Learning the skill offers valuable understanding that makes landing the right job and the desired level of advantage on more likely, both immediately and in the future. This job will be a starting point, but my goal is to move up into a position as a clinical laboratory technician or a nurse.

Conclusion

One of the most exciting parts of being a phlebotomist is that you can work with different people every day. Depending on where you choose to work. You could see dozens of patients a day. You automatically must develop the skills to successfully draw blood. The medical field needs more remarkable phlebotomists.
