There is a photograph of my dad, my grandfather, my grandmother and I that I remember vividly. My mom took this photograph when they were over to celebrate my grandfather's birthday. My grandparents had such an impact in my life when I was younger. I can remember that when my mom took this picture, we were just beginning to sit down on the couch in our cozy living room and eat some delightful and rich strawberry shortcake. The flavors from the cake were extremely sweet just like a fresh and juicy strawberry.

I spent many precious moments with my grandparents when I was younger. One day they told me a story that was life changing for me about how my family choose my full name and the history behind it. The moment that my grandma told me that my last name came from Ireland was amazing because she came over when she was at the age of eighteen. When they left Ireland, they had no money to survive when they arrived here in the United States.

Once they arrived at Elis Island in New York, they took a bus to small town in Bedford Hills, New York. My grandma met my grandfather once they got off the bus. Also, when she started working at a local restaurant called Tip's Spot luncheonette in a small town called Bedford Hills, New York that my grandfather owned. Furthermore, my parents have helped me understand my full name and heritage as well. I sat down with my mom and dad on March 26, 2020 and we discussed my full name.

According to my mom Karen and my dad Gene that the reason why they choose my first name Samantha was because in the year of 1999, my name was one of the most popular names. Also, they were debating between Samantha and Siobhan. Suddenly, my mom and dad were sitting on the couch and watching television one night and they decided on the name of Samantha. My dad told me that my middle name Lynne was given to me in honor of my late grandmother's name Lynn.

The meaning of my name in the testimony of God is God hearing. In the 18th century the name was uncommon until the year of 1964. In 1964, the name became common due to the main character in Bewitched had the name of Samantha.

I wanted to include my middle name because there is a lot of sentimental meaning to it. My middle name is Lynne. My parents gave me that name because it was my late grandma's dying wish. Furthermore, my last name McDermott means "Son of DIARMAID". The McDermott's were nobility in the Kingdom of Connaught, a province in Ireland. (Berry, Name. 'Home.' McDermott is a common Irish surname that means, as all Mc or Mac names do, "son of" then Dermott or Dermot, which is an Anglicization of the Irish Gaelic Diarmaid. The legendary Diarmaid was the lover of Grainne and the real King Diarmaid, in the twelfth century, first invited the English into Ireland. In conclusion, I really enjoyed doing this research paper because I discovered neat facts about my full name that I never knew about before. I would say that the most difficult part to this whole process of the research paper was the research part. Researching my first last name Tipa was difficult but I could not find any facts for it. That's when my mom and my boyfriend Nick suggested to me to use my second last name which is McDermott. Overall, this whole experience was amazing for me because not only did I look back on an old photograph but I was able to make memories with my Mom and Dad; but yet I was able to understand my family history as well.
