Zen activities like meditation and yoga, are just the right amount of physical activity for the long weekend. The history buff is a type of traveller, who strives to go beyond their own roots to understand the past and culture of a new place. Not very many places have as many Unesco World Heritage Sites as Sri Lanka’s whopping eight. More than 2000 years of rich culture is illustrated by ancient sites, remarkable temples and timeless ruins. One of the most intriguing visits, is Adam Bridge (a.k.a.: Rama Setu), a chain of limestone rocks between the south-eastern coast of Tamil Nadu and Mannar Island. Hindu theology suggests that this bridge was used by Rama to rescue Sita from Lanka. Interestingly, geological evidence implies that what remains, was a former land connection between India and Sri Lanka. Other tours like a Heritage walk in Kandy takes you through the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, the Lankatilake Buddhist Temple and the Gadaladeniya Temple, which is vastly influenced by south Indian architecture styles. Lastly the family vacationers. Travelling with children often requires special planning and treatment. You want to make sure your kids have a memorable holiday while keeping stress to the minimum.
