Maintaining Professionalism in Early Childhood Education

I exceed expectations with my commitment to professionalism. I do this by protecting the confidentiality of my children, their families and the program. I have a positive attitude and work ethic while maintaining my energy and enthusiasm.

I take every opportunity to continue my professional growth to gain knowledge about child development and early childhood to ensure I'll be the best professional I can be. I do this by networking with other professionals, reading reputable and current articles, and attending training courses.

I seek out opportunities where I can assist my colleagues in curriculum planning and classroom management. I avoid gossiping and toxic stress at all cost.

I chose to become a preschool teacher after my son finished his PreK program. I was homeschooling my 3 year old daughter in preschool and was getting accolades from friends and family. They would often tell me I should become a preschool teacher. As my son was finishing up his PreK program the teachers announced their retirement.

I quickly knew this was my opportunity to live out my dream of being a preschool teacher. As part of my CDA requirements I needed to spend time in a classroom so I began volunteering in my daughters PreK class.

I enjoyed being encouraged to be creative and playful in daily activities and have a substantial input in the classroom curriculum and schedule. I really liked using games, storytelling, and other activities to help children develop language and vocabulary, improve social skills, and learn basic science and math concepts.

The highlights of my days volunteering was when I saw a child’s eyes light up when they learn/try something new.

When they suddenly were able to make the letters in their name, or do something they weren’t previously able to do, I got as excited as they did. When the children were lined up waiting to come into class, and then run in and give me a hug, it warmed my heart. I knew it was exactly the career choice I wanted to pursue.

I shape a child’s views about learning and the world around them by providing a high-quality early childhood program in a professional manner. One of the most important indicators of my professionalism is when I protect the confidentiality of my children, their families and my child care program.

As a true professional in the childcare field I exhibit a positive attitude and work ethic with energy and enthusiasm. Another indictor of my professionalism is when I advocate for a child and continue my career growth by learning about new laws, attending seminars and maintaining an active membership in an early childhood association.
