The Road is a novel by Cormac McCarthy published in 2006. The novel details the journey of a father and his young son over a period of several months across a post-apocalyptic landscape, in an attempt to find a safer place to live. The novel was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 2007.The father and son travel through a burned-out wasteland of forests and mountains, encountering few other survivors. They subsist on whatever they can find, including canned food and the occasional animal carcass. The father is determined to protect his son at all costs and instills in him a strict code of survival.The pair eventually reach the coast, where they find a boat. They set sail, hoping to find other survivors, but their journey is ultimately unsuccessful. The father dies, and the son is left alone in the world.
