Athol Fugard is a South African playwright, director, and actor who has written some of the most powerful plays about the country’s apartheid system. He is best known for his play “Master Harold” and the Boys, which was made into a film starring Sidney Poitier. Fugard has also written several novels, including “The Road to Mecca” and “My Children! My Africa!”. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the Nobel Prize for Literature.
