How CRNA Has Helped Me With My Health Care Career Goals

Well to start off I’m going to be focusing on the health care worker that I’m striving to be which is a RN (registered nurse). Registered Nurses are an incredibly fundamental part of the health care workers in the field. Nurses do a very wide variety of things from observing and recording their patient’s behavior to even creating and evaluating customized care plans. On a regular day RN’s consult with health care providers, they must administer medication to different patients, monitor patients, provide emotional support for the family of the patient as well as the patient, perform diagnostic test as well as analyzing the results, operating medical equipment, and they are also given the responsibility to manage the medical records.

While their primary responsibility as a RN is to treat and take care of patients, they clearly do way more than that. To be an RN doesn’t mean to only have one job.

After you’ve become a registered nurse you can also pick a specialty you’d like to pursue. Before researching for this assignment, I was very interested in becoming a CRNA (Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists) personally I’m between about 5 different specializations that currently interest me, but I am currently leaning a bit more towards a CRNA. What a CRNA does is provide anesthetics to patient’s in every type of practice environment, as well as for every surgery and or procedure you can think of from a craniotomy to a rhinoplasty.

Other responsibilities that fall upon a CRNA include things such as performing epidural, spinal, or nerve blocks. They must provide care before, during and after the patient is under anesthesia. They are required to examine patient’s medical records for any allergies or illnesses just to make sure the patient isn’t allergic to any medication. They need to be there monitoring the patient’s vital signs throughout the whole procedure. And another very important aspects is that they must discuss any side effects of anesthesia with patients. Being a CRNA is one of the specialties that you must take the most precaution in. They need to be monitoring the patient very closely, down to the individual organ systems to make sure nothing is going wrong. This could go on for hours. The other specialties that I am interested in are CNS (Clinical nurse specialist), a Nurse Practitioner, a Nurse Researcher, a Trauma Nurse and a Travel Nurse. To become a CRNA you must first earn a bachelor’s degree of science in nursing. Then you must obtain state licensure and gain experience. After you’ve done that you must then earn a master’s degree to become a CRNA.

A clinical nurse specialist performs a variety of health assessments, they order diagnostic and lab test as well as prescribe medications and provide pharmacologic and nonpharmacological treatments. A nurse practitioner is basically an advanced RN who just has more responsibility for administering patient care. As more and more hospitals and health care facilities make use of their skills, nurse practitioners are becoming more important to medical teams. Their experience as working nurses provides them with a unique approach to patient care, while their advanced studies allow them to take on additional tasks that are usually left to doctors. They can prescribe medication, do diagnostics, provide different treatment’s, as well as examine patients. A nurse researcher is basically just scientist whose job it is to study the aspects of health as well as illness and health care. Pharmaceutical and medical research is one of the main reasons we’ve made so much progress in the medical field over the last century. Work carried out in these fields has helped to develop many of today’s main drugs and cures. Without this type of research, even the mildest disease would cause many people to die. They design as well as implement scientific studies they. A very important role they play is to look for ways to improve health. They play an enormous role in delivering research. Nurses working in emergency wards and other hospital sites dealing with severe emergencies are given the name “trauma nurses”.

The last specialty that I’m interested in is A travel nurse. Typically, travel nurses work as contract workers for healthcare companies on short-term assignments. The roles of traveling nursing are very close to those of non-traveling nurses. They care for patient’s and record patient chart information, prescribe medications as well as coordinate care for the patient with different departments of the hospital.
