These people whom revealed that they had confronted several types of oppressions almost on a daily basis which in almost total includes such things as the loss of employment because of predisposition, in school tormentation so awful the victim was almost forced to drop out in order to stay safe, physical ambush and rape because of inclination, vagrancy on account of sexual orientation character and or articulation, loss of association with spouse, sons/daughters, or family because of sexual orientation, disavowal of medicinal administration because of orientation which almost lead towards detainment because of bias day to day. As of 2011, there is an estimated amount of 90% of transgender people who report the feeling of being oppressed and marginalized due to their sexual position and mistreatment at places like work according to a National Transgender Discrimination Survey.
‘Transgender’ – or trans – is an umbrella term for individuals whose sex personality is unique in relation to the sex relegated to us during childbirth. In spite of the fact that ‘transgender’ and our advanced meaning of it just came into utilization in the late twentieth century, individuals who might fit under this definition have existed in each culture all through written history. “While the federal government’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and the Department of Education have recently taken steps to include transgender people under existing non-discrimination protections, there is still no comprehensive non-discrimination law that includes gender identity.” These people suffer oppression literally day to day everywhere they go and wherever they go. Transgender women and men suffer from all kinds of violence and harassment which is not something we quite hear about from our societies and community news. “The biggest human rights issue facing the trans and gender diverse community is safety. Hundreds of transgender people are killed around the world each year, and there are still a number of countries where gender diversity is treated as a crime.” It is quite unbelievable how people can get killed simply by being who their heart tell them to be. There was at least about thirteen trans women who were murdered coldly and it was not a small deal, the people who did such monstrous act of violence stabbed them to death, burned them still alive, strangled and shot in the years 2014 and 2015. Thinking this is the only things they go through would be a billion times better than what other things they suffer from. Even if they were not harassed these transgender people would sooner or later kill themselves even because of the situation they are in. ‘While advocates keep attempting to cure these abberations, change can’t come for transgender individuals who have been seeking this for a long time.
If you think you are discriminated in the worst kinds of ways think twice because there are people suffering not only once or twice a week or day but more like five times more than that. “What most people don’t realise is transgender people can face up to 50 to 60 instances of micro-aggression (casual discrimination) a day — which takes a huge psychological toll.This ranges from deliberate exclusion to misgendering (using incorrect gender pronouns) and being asked invasive questions that might be seen as ‘harmless’.” The arrangement of transgender persecution benefits non transgender individuals whose sex personality and articulation adjust effortlessly to societal desires. Transgender mistreatment targets and underestimates individuals who are transgender in the in all senses. “In 16 states including the District of Colombia , and in some smaller jurisdictions, it is illegal to discriminate against trans people in housing, employment, and some housing accomodations. on the other hand, it tells us that only 44% of the United States lives in areas covered by these laws. With celebrities like Chaz Bono and Caitlin Jenner being covered so publicly in the media for being transgender, it can come across that these issues are ‘mainstream’ but in reality they are not.” Even some of the most famous people ever are suffering great consequences for simply being who they want to be.
There is levels to what people who are transgender go through and are categorized by individual, cultural and institutional. Individual refers to one’s everyday life and what they might go through with their families or their closest people, cultural refers to what the rest of the people outside of their family do or think about the transgender community, and lastly institutional refers to what the people think from a more political and government issued point of view. These three categories opress the transgender community because people never have seemed to accept them. “If a U.S. citizen is married to someone who is not a U.S. citizen, their spouse automatically gets the opportunity to pursue citizenship, unless the couple is same-sex, and unless either one of them is a transgender person. In some states, in order to change the sex category on your driver’s license, you need to present a letter from a surgeon attesting that you have had “irreversible sex reassignment surgery.”Parents, teachers, and school administrators force youth who are transgender or gender non-conforming to wear gender-conforming clothes and participate in gender-conforming activities. A restaurant decides not to hire someone who is gender non-conforming because they believe the person will make customers uncomfortable.” These are almost all the things not only the transgender community go through but also the LGBT family.
Across an article I picked up on a word that caught my attention which is cissexism. “Cissexism (or cis-sexism) is the set of acts and norms that privilege cis people and/or oppress trans people. More broadly, cissexism is the appeal to norms that enforce the gender binary, and gender essentialism, resulting in the oppression of gender variant, non-binary and trans identities.” They are forced to be someone who they are not of these cis people for their safety. Transgender oppression is a real thing and there is more and more murders every year . “Trans people have exposed the truth regarding this fabrication we call “gender roles” as a social construction, one which our society ascribes to each of us as it assigns us a sex at birth. With the label “female” assigned at birth, society forces us to follow its “feminine script,” and with “male” assigned at birth, we are handed our “masculine” script to act out. “ These people won’t be left alone unless someone or a huge amount of people do say or do something for them. “Trans people have opened the boxes for all of us to ultimately obliterate the cisgender status quo of binary oppositions by demonstrating in visible ways, the options upon an enormous gender continuum, one that does not depend upon a sex assigned to us, a sex that is imposed and forced upon us by others. The trans community has shown us the essential fluidity of gender.” They have taught us the better way of being smart and strong. Many fail to see the greatness in these people who have been oppressed for years now.
I believe it is not only me who would want to get along with everyone peacefully and for there not to be any more oppression towards any kind of group or people. “Trans* visionaries, who are persecuted in their own time, will one day be perceived as the visionary truth tellers they definitely are. Until that day, the harassment, the marginalization, the fear, the violence, the religious dogma, and the murders must end. It is up to us all to work toward this on a daily basis.” The author of this article also believes that the transgender community one day will be able to walk around through the streets without being pointed out or laughed at . I suggest people to put themselves in their place and think how they feel threatened and harrassed to the places they go to. These people have duties to accomplish, places to go, events to go to and they feel tremendously horrified of even thinking how they will be harassed this day or maybe even murdered. In this article there is an estimated amount of fifty plus names of those from the transgender community who have been murdered due to the fact they were expressing themselves for them to feel more comfortable about themselves. These murderers have a problem named transphobia which in reality it means the dread, bigotry, or disdain of atypical sex articulation or identity, or of individuals epitomizing or communicating an atypical sexual orientation character.
Lastly, one of the worst feeling scenarios a transgender woman or man could go through is facing all of the legal documentation if they live here in the United States or anywhere else in the world. “The widespread lack of accurate identity documents among transgender people can have an impact on every area of their lives, including access to emergency housing or other public services. To be clear, without identification, one cannot travel, register for school or access many services that are essential to function in society.” There is fees for processing legal documents here in the U.S and nearly thirty-three percent of the transgender community has not been able to make updates to all of their legal documents which boosts up prices for many things like going to the doctor or etc.
