Hume’s Copy Principle is a fundamental principle of empiricism and states that all knowledge is derived from experience. According to this principle, every idea we have in our minds is a copy of a previous perception or experience. Hume argued that we cannot have any ideas that do not have their origin in experience. In other words, all our ideas, concepts, and beliefs are based on our sense impressions and observations, and there are no innate ideas or concepts. Hume believed that the only way we can gain knowledge is through empirical observation, and that even our most fundamental beliefs, such as those about cause and effect or the existence of the external world, are based on our experience of the world.
