Bullying between Genders
Bullying between genders is something in what our society usually don’t think, however have you ever asked yourself the question, is bullying that boys receive the same as what girls usually suffer?
The answer of this question is no, girls usually receive a different type of bullying than boys but, this is not the only factor that alters the way people start bullying others, another factor is their culture or society, but to understand this first we have to know the real definition of bullying which is a persistent pattern of threatening, harassing, or aggressive behavior directed toward another person or persons who are perceived as less important in the community, weaker, or less powerful. In other words bullying is an act to make others feel insecure, and not comfortable with themselves.
Another interesting fact is how boys and girls react when they start getting bullied but, they can also have the same attitude when the bullying is happening, it depends more on the person and the reason why they are being bullied, boys are classified as stronger than girls but sometimes it can be different because, both genders can commit suicide, hurt themselves, etc. In other words bullying between boy and girls can be different but at the same time equal, it can cause the same amount of damage and can lead them to do stuff that they are not supposed to, gender should not make a difference when it comes to helping someone who has been through a tough moment and they both deserve to be treated equally.
When we start talking about bullying we think that girls and boys receive the same type of bullying, but since the first question was answered we know that this is not true we can see this when we start looking at the the chart that is on the article by Ruth A. Wienclaw and Rebecca J. Fray Where title as “Bullying” shows that there is a difference between the amount of girls and boys that suffer physical bullying, Studies showed that boys are more likely to carry out direct or physical bullying (pushing, slapping, punching, spitting, or tripping), while girls are more likely to carry out indirect bullying (threats, teasing, rumors, stealing or extortion, or shunning). This according to the article by Melinda Tanzola named “Long-term effects of bullying vary by gender.” This shows that bullying that girls received is different, however this does not means that the bullying that they receive is not causing damage to the them, the effects that bullying cause is going to be the same.
Effect on Victim
Bullying is affecting the victim in a psychological way, it doesn’t matter the type of bullying, it is always affecting the victim not only in a psychological way like stated before but, in every single possible way. Effects of bullying is something that over the years has been showing that the more bullying a victim suffers the more mental issues that the person will have in the future. The effect of bullying however, are the same between boys and girls, the worst thing of the effects of bullying is that it can lead some kids to commit suicide, not only kids to commit suicide, teenagers can hurt themselves as well, there are many examples where young boys and girls commit suicide because of bullying one example of this were the news from Evening Standards from London where a 11 years old was found dead by his parents after one of his friends claimed Ben was being bullied at Tanbridge House School, Horsham, by a gang his own age who kicked and punched him, whipped him with knotted shoelaces and constantly taunted him.
This is a perfect example of how devastating bullying can be and how can this horrible issue can lead a 11 years old to stop dreaming and making him think that there is no way to get out of the problem and that the only solution is to kill himself. another of the effects is that they get psychological damages and in the article named “Doctors urged to join anti-bullying efforts.” by Melinda Tanzola explains that there has being some studies were it showed that there is a 50% more chances that kids that had being suffering from bullying can carry a gun than a kid that had not suffer from bullying, this is why when kids start making bullying to each other is making damage not only on one or two kids it is affecting the hole community and there had being cases on which because one kid was suffering of bullying he started making bully to other kid that he thought they were less or weaker than him.
Bullying is one of the principle factors that is ruining our society and also is taking our kids their liberty in a sort of way, this is not just a country’s issue this is happening around the world. But have you ever think about how girls suffer of bullying well, in some types of bullying girls are the ones that suffer more and this is the case of cyber bullying and psychological bullying this because girls tend to make bullying through verbal expression or internet and boys usually goes by the physical bullying and this is shown in the chart already mention that shows that in 2008 there were more girls suffering of cyberbullying and psychological bullying, a good demonstration of how girls tend to make bullying was the article “Pushed too far: what happens when bullying drives a teenage girl over the edge?” by Lora Grady, where Amelia a 15 years old young girl who was suspended from her school because of cheating this was a big surprise for her mom because Amelia was an honour roll student, destined for an Ivy League college.
When Kate her mom arrives at Amelia’s school, Grace Hall, she is shocked to find Amelia has jumped to her death from the roof-and it seems no one saw anything. After all, her mom finds out that Amelia had been tapped to join a popular and forbidden school club, the Magpies, infamous for their cruel hazing and Lord of the Flies culture. We can conclude that she was suspended because the other girls were being a bad role model to her and start putting her in situations that she has never being. This shows how interesting is that genders can even influence in the bullying and how this chart shows that boys and girls differentiate in the way that they think and act. Bullying on adults is something that it happens too and the bullying in adults is also categorized in three different types of bullying. Aggressive communication, humiliation and manipulation, this according to Catherine Mattice on her article “Workplace Bullying Is a Serious Problem.” This tends to be similar to the bullying that we usually see on schools, but the difference is that on adults there is not many physical cases. However One of the main reasons why bullying should stop is because of the huge impact that is having in our society and this issue that is not only affecting adults it is affecting young people and even affecting kids from middle school and its causing them to have mental issues in the feature like depression, anxiety, and even isolation problems this means that the victim will become less socially active and it can make them insecure and feel worthless, what leads them to think that if they talk about what is going on, no one is going to listen to them, and that they would make fun of them and that is also how they become scared of being rejected.
One of the ways that people can stop bullying is starting on every single school, since in schools is where we find more bullying cases due to their ages that believe it or not it can make them an easy target, it seems impossible because most of the time kids are being attacked from kids of their same age but, that is the reason why, not all kids are the same meaning that they don´t think the same way and some kids can understand and analyze things better than other of their same age can, and they take advantage from that. Schools and community should start doing something to make of our world a better and safer place to live, they should start teaching kids what an impact our actions can have and more when it comes to interacting with each other, it is true that boys and girls are different in many ways, like girls tend to be more emotional, and for some people they need to be more careful when it comes to girls because they can get hurt in some many ways not only psychologically but, physically like being sexually abused, etc.
When it comes to boys, it depends on how they parents treat them or teach them the difference between right and wrong, it all start from home, if they are receiving love from their love ones, or if one of their parents is missing, anything can make them vulnerable or make them the one that enjoys hurting others. Another reason why bullying should stop is because according to A Comprehensive Plan to Prevent Bullying by Martha K. Swartz that 18% to 31% of children experience bullying in schools. Also, 7% to 15% of children and youth are believed to be the victims of cyberbullying through social media. This is causing a lot of kids to start having many mental breakdowns, also they are getting physical effects as sleep disturbances, gastrointestinal complaints, and headaches, this is all part of the same problem, it is how everything starts getting worse and cyberbullying can be even more dangerous than bullying in person because, they are being told that if they tell their parents what is going on they are going to kill them leading them to never give their parents a reason to doubt about their children lifestyle or the way they are feeling and it becomes harder to find out what is actually happening and in many cases, these kids kill themselves and until that moment everyone notice and start thinking about all those signs that they gave days, months or years before they decided to stop living and no one put attention to them . This also according to the article by Martha K. Swartz, in other words bullying is not only affecting kids in a mental way is also affecting their physics, thats is why bullying should stop because taking they life of our young generations.
A good way on which we can stop this is by making school programs in which kids can interact between each other and make more friends in a healthy way, but also make more rules against bullying and making the ones that are already implement a zero-tolerance policies meaning that they are not going to accept not even a bad luck and when something like that happens because, kids or teenagers can always have their differences, they should give everyone the confidence so they can talk about their problems without getting in problem or having huge consequences, this is a big part of the problem, adults not always are easy to talk to, everyone is different and some parents can get mad for the smallest thing and that makes their kids not wanting to talk to them about their problems, society should change, they are already doing a lot to try to stop bullying but it is not enough, they should change their techniques or ask teenager kids and everyone that is suffering from bullying, what is the smartest thing to do, and also teachers should start checking on those guys that do look like they like to play around a lot, or they like to make others feel bad even if they apologize or make it look like they were just having a good time and say they are actually friends even when they are not, it is also important to check on those guys that look like they enjoy being by themselves or like wearing long sleeves because, most of the time those guys are the ones that like to cut themselves and their are just trying to hide their marks, it can bother them or making them uncomfortable but it is better to make them feel that way, than letting someone suffer and letting them think they are worthless or not important at all. After all, we can see that bullying between genders is something that it might be different when we talk about the way that genders suffer bullying.
And this was shown by charts where it shows that in reality genders can really influence the way we react or the way that people attack us and this is a good example of it where we can see that women usually start doing bullying in a verbal way by saying nicknames or talking about their weight, that is a huge problems when it comes to girls, and it also has to do with guys because, if a girl is skinny for society she is gorgeous or perfect but just because she is different and weights more than average girls they are being rejected leading them to start dangerous diets and exposing themselves to die without even wanting to make that happen, and as we all know anyone can get sick from being too skinny, and there is also the other part where, they can´t lose weight because that is just the way their body is and they start cutting themselves and not wanting to live anymore because, in their minds no one is ever gonna like them and that makes them not accept themselves and live with hate in their hearts. Boys tent to be more violent when it comes to bullying they get more physical and make damage to the victim by pushing, slapping, punching, spitting, or tripping which as we already mention, bad guys bullying (nerds) is the most common thing that we see in high school students, it is like average guys don’t like when a guy looks different, another huge problem in high school students are sports because, if a guy doesn’t like to do sports others would start categorizing him as weak or as girly making him feel bad and not letting him be who he really is. Kids and teenagers can suffer due to their religion or ethnicity, like hispanic people a good evidence of this was the case on Alabama cbs news posted a new that said ‘Spanish-speaking parents say their children are facing more bullying and taunts at school since Alabama’s tough crackdown on illegal immigration took effect last month.
Many blame the name-calling on fallout from the law, which has been widely covered in the news, discussed in some classrooms and debated around dinner tables. , every single kid that was not born here suffer from bullying in their schools, it can also start in elementary school, and even if they learn the language kids that were born here would make fun of their accents and always find a way to make them feel bad just because they think they are superior or better than them.
