Deputy Head Girl Letter

I am writing to inform you that I am applying for the position of either Head or Deputy Head girl. First and foremost I recognise the significant and demanding nature of this role. Having spoken to the current head girl team, I can honestly say that I can not envisage a more rewarding or worthwhile challenge to conclude my final year at Notting Hill. Undoubtedly, my experiences at Notting Hill have helped shape the person I am today and what I stand for.

I feel indebted to not only give something back, but to also leave a small mark of my presence that will in turn better the community that I have grown to cherish. The role of a Head or Deputy Head Girl is clearly one of great importance as they play an outward role in the school’s daily occurrence. However, to me, a Head Girl is not someone of greater importance than the rest of the Sixth Form, but someone with the ability to work effectively in a large team, giving equal importance to every individual within the team.

The role of the Head girl requires the ability to motivate those around you, whilst at the same time, being motivated by those around to create a stress- free, comfortable and memorable environment for what will be an extremely stressful final year. I feel that the qualities that I gained from being a House captain, which involved listening and taking into account the opinions and advise of others are essential for any leadership position and will therefore benefit me greatly in this role, as it ensures co-operation and involvement from all members of the team.

Additionally, I believe that my innovative nature will bring a new dynamic to the role, allowing me to approach tasks with originality, effectiveness and determination, but most importantly with enthusiasm. As a Head girl, I would be given the opportunity to encourage and build on the qualities that our school already possesses, whilst making and putting into action suggestions that will add greater strength to the school and its community. Some of ideas I propose include greater interaction between the upper and lower levels of the school.

Despite us already having vertical groups as part of the House system these are fairly short sessions and can be quite repetitive. Taking inspiration from the success of ‘TIME DAY’ from a few years back, I believe that by organising activity days we can allow interaction not only between the years, but also with in each house, as the girls will be spending whole days carrying out team building exercises. Having spent this past year sharing a common room with Year 13, we have all come to realise how difficult the next year is going to be, especially with the strenuous process of writing personal statements.

Many of us are still undecided on what career choices we want to make and about what we want to study at university. Having heard about the success of the Oxbridge meetings I feel that by holding such seminars for popular career choices, selecting inspirational speakers and even some old girls who have gone through the process in recent years, we can assist the girls in making the right choices for their futures. Overall as a Head girl I will work with fellow students for fellow students and seek to encourage ambition in everyone.
