Death, feared by many, however, William Shakespeare seems to view what is generally perceived as a catastrophe as an out for some of the characters' problems. All throughout the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, there is death which the characters see as a misfortune But is often used as a solution. After an analysis of the tragedy, one could argue that death is used as a tool to overcome personal, legal, familial, and moral obstacles.
Shakespeare’s use of death in Romeo and Juliet allows the debate that death is used as a mechanism to dissipate Familial depressions.
Just after word gets out that Romeo is being exiled Lady Montague hears about her son's misfortune and is heartbroken. While the town is gathering outside Juliet’s tomb Lord Montague shows up to present his news “Alas, my liege, my wife is dead tonight! The grief of my son’s exile hath stopped her breath.”.Quickly the problems overbear Lady Montague and she lets death guide her away from her problems and back to her son.
The famous tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is known for the lover's death at the end of the play, rather than just ending the play the deaths are also used as a device to solve personal issues.
Immediately after finding out about Romeo being exiled Juliet gets her hands on a potion that will put her in a death-like sleep. She uses this so when she wakes up she can leave and be with Romeo, yet he doesn't get the word and finds her in her tomb dead.
After seeing the love of his life lying on the ground lifeless Romeo decides it is time to go “Here’s to my love! O true apothecary thy drugs are quick.thus with a kiss I die .”.Immediately after Romeo arrives to see his lover in that state Romeo knows it was due to his exile and decides to drink the potion and join his beloved.
Finally, Romeo uses the death of Mercutio as a utensil for him to rise above the rules and fix his moral dissatisfaction. In the middle of the play, Mercutio fights Tybalt to Romeo doesn't have to, yet Mercutio ends up dying. As you can imagine this enraged Romeo and when Tybalt comes back Romeo Challenges Tybalt to a duel.”Now, Tybalt, take the “villain” back again that late thou gavest me, for Mercutio's soul is but little way above our heads.”After this Romeo and Tybalt duel, Romeo prevails victorious in honor of Mercutio. All things considered, Romeo would not have dueled Tybalt if it had not been for Mercutio's death and the moral strain that had on Romeo.
After the play, one can conclude that Shakespeare uses death as a tool to get by struggles in life. All throughout the play, people die but with the death of that person, other people’s needs are satisfied. While one death solves another character's problems but adds problems for other characters the play keeps going. Shakespeare uses the death of Lady Montague, Mercutio, and the supposed death of Juliet. At the end of the play, the town of Verona is at peace because the war between the families is at rest after this many lives were lost.
