In fact, millions of children worldwide have been lifted out of poverty, progress has been uneven and unseen, with children in especially sub-Saharan Africa and other areas facing the highest levels of mortality, poor nutrition, child marriage and illiteracy and other issues. So we might be wondering that there are so many foundations which have mottoes to prevent the poverty, morality, increase the income level of people and they are trying to improve the quality of life. Interestingly, a question might be raised.

Are these nonprofit organizations really doing efficiently or not? In the report, I will write about one of these companies which has been trying to improve to ensure more children and young people survive and thrive, empower the poorest, combat infectious diseases, inspire people to take action.

The foundation is called Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Previously it was called the William H. Gates Foundation. It is an American private foundation founded by Bill Gates who is co-founder of Microsoft Company and by his wife Melinda Gates.

The scale of the foundation and the way it seeks to apply business techniques to giving makes it one of the leaders in venture philanthropy, through the foundation itself notes that the role of philanthropy has limitations. In 2007, its founders were ranked as the second most generous philanthropists in the Unites States, and Warren Buffett the first. As of May 16, 2013, Bill Gates had donated $28 billion to the foundation. As a matter of fact that since its founding, the foundation has endowed and supported a broad range of social, health and education developments including the establishment of the Fates Cambridge Scholarships at Cambridge University. In 1994, the foundation was formed as the William H, Gates Foundation. During the foundation’s following years, funding grew to $2 billion. On June 15 2006, Gates announced his plans to transition out of a day to day role with Microsoft, effective. July 31, 2008 to allow him to devote more time working with the foundation. On the other hand, the foundation is not only focusing on the health of people, they also implementing so to enhance the agriculture situation in the poorest areas and income level. It means the company is so much helping the third world countries government. Warren Buffet donation on June 25, 2006 pledged to donate the foundation about ten million Berkshire Hathaway Class B shares through annual contributions, along with the first donation of half of these shares being worth roughly $1.5 billion. Warren Buffett contribution to the foundation do not simply increase the foundation’s endowment, but effectively work as a matching contribution, doubling the foundation’s annual giving. The Gates Foundation received 500,000 of the shares in July 2006 and will receive 5 % of the remaining earmarked shares in the July of each following year. Moreover, another important years in the foundation was happened in July last year, Buffet announced another donation of his company’s Class B stock, this time worth $ two billion, to the Gates Foundation. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s vision and mission convers a lots of areas such as unlocking the possibility every individual and focusing on the areas of greatest need, on the ways in which we can do the most good. They trying to not only actions but they are focusing on results, those that can be measured for example: it can be agriculture, health care, income stabilization, quality of life in the poorest areas and on the ways we can do the most good. Third factor of the vision and mission of the foundation is related to focusing on the areas of the greatest need, on the ways in which the company can do the most effective. They are seeking to drive change on a global scale of economy and people. Lastly, the foundation is impatient optimists about changing the situation of life quality. If we check about the business model of the foundation is totally related a donation method. Key capability of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is belonging to strong partnerships with large organizations as well as support different programs in the different places. Moreover, the value proposition of the company is also covers to work to improve the United States of America high school and postsecondary education system. That is why the company has a channel though delivering services by partners and strong advertising campaign.

For years the foundation has successfully advocated for greater investment in faucal sludge management. The past years the foundation has broadened its focus with partners, articulated a vision for CITY WIDE INCLUSIVE SANITATION that is inclusive of approaches, focus on serve delivery – rather than infrastructure and make sure that the poorest areas are served. It is believed that they are well positioned to make comprehensive progress to the future. This international sector – wide vision and strategy has been very good. The innovation is about toilets to improve the sanitation. In rich countries you just take the toilet for granted. It is magical that there is a sewer system bringing water in taking away the waste and it all gets cleaned up in a processing plant. However, for the poorest two and a half billion in the world. They don’t have this. It is unaffordable, we cannot build that for everyone in the world. For some of the poorest, they toilet may look like a pit latrine. The waste is not processed. It is still going to get out in the community. They smell terrible. But everybody should have great sanitation. A toilet in their house that is comfortable and doesn’t smell awful. Not only does a toilet make your life comfortable but getting rid of that waste is key to human health. It is unprocessed waste that causes most of the diarrheal diseases. That is why, it ends up with lots of kids being malnourished. The foundation is working with some scientists to come up with a way of takinf the waste and processing it locally. The program is called reinvent the toilet. It is tested and several reinvented toilets are being process in Durban, South Africa. In the place many people do not have modern sanitation which means that even if they have access to a toilet, the waste can get into the environment and make people sick. A typical toilet needs water but many of the new approaches do not require any water at all. Some of them don’t need electricity either. Others run on solar power. All of them remove the pathogens from the waste. Importantly, they do not have to be connected to the city sewer system. It is one of the most innovations now the foundation is implementing to increase the number of these kind of toilets in the third work counties especially in Africa. I think if it will be go smoothly, the sanitation of human being obviously increase. Over time, they hope the manufacturing costs will drop enough to allow for widespread household use. It means that that will help to decrease the rate of the disease and dingle berries. Budget of the project cost US$ 91 million annually over three years. For example for that project. Bangladesh is one of the Foundation’s priority countries where the foundation has been supporting the government in developing its polices and their implementations. Recently the Government of Bangladesh committed at least US$ 3.2 billion on towards urban sanitation over the next years, with at least 20% dedicated to solutions which will reach all 329 municipalities by 2030.

Everything the foundation does at the BMGF aid based on the core belief that all lives have equal value. Bill and Melinda Gates works across a broad range of issues, but all of them focus on removing the barriers that prevent people from living healthy, productive lives. It is believed, and research has shown, that education offers a path to opportunity. The chances of a child born into the bottom 20% income level climbing the ladder of opportunity to the top 20% is just 4 in 100 for those without a college education, while those with a college education increase their chances 5 times.

However, we also know that this path, and its opportunity, are not equitably accessible to all. Rates of upward income mobility have fallen sharply over the past half century: about 90% of children born in 1940 could expect to earn more than their parents compared to about 50% of children born in the 1980s.

Further, the gaps in student outcomes can be predicted and expected – based on systemic obstacles presented to students of color and low-income students. Economic mobility, one of the key benefits of a college degree or credential, is not evenly distributed by race/ethnicity. For example, black children born in the bottom income quintile have a 2.5% chance of rising to the top quintile compared with 10.6% for whites.

We find this unacceptable – more of an American nightmare than an American dream – and it is an important part of the focus in our Postsecondary strategy. So that Bill and Melinda Gates is also contributing in education sector too.

Conclusion

Last but not least, the series of charts shown above lead you a lot in terms of geography and inequality. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation marked health and education. The reason is they are the essential elements of economists called human capital, which illustrated the best way for a country to unlock productivity and innovation, cut poverty, create opportunities and generate prosperity. Without doubt, investments in human capital nowadays comes in useful to increase their incomes later on. However without it – that is for those who are unhealthy and uneducated- it is virtually not possible to get rid of poverty. I think the logic behind the low income counties is related to boys’ and girls’ gap of the education. This lack of access to education and jobs is destructive for everyone. It keeps women disempowered, limits their children’s life chances and slow down economic growth for sure. The foundation is helping a lot of sectors in the society, education, agriculture, health care and etc. It has an opportunity to do and creating more fields in the future. For sure this is all for human being who are living I very low income society and having no access in the field of health and education. Not it is unimaginable to have clear understanding in the areas where people who do have clear water to drink. The reason is that we are living in the most developed nations now. It is so hard to feel it.
