Expert practitioners in cosmetic science have claimed that the use of cosmetic acupuncture could reduce wrinkles, improve skin texture, help in the elimination of fine lines and the lifting of sagging skin. This can collectively be referred to as the rejuvenation of skin. The effects are however not permanent but will last an individual about three months before they take a trip down to their acupuncture specialist for the 40 minute procedure(which is actually worth it at the end of the day).
Acupunctures’ claim to fame was in the treatment of various types of body ache, sprains and fertility problems but in recent times, the cosmetic angle of its benefits has also been brought to light by acupuncture experts such as Dr. Martha Lucas of the Cosmetic Acupuncture System center.
The acupuncture process entails sticking micro-needles into the skin of the subjects. The micro-needles are not placed randomly but at specific pressure points on the face to release the body’s internal energy (Chi) and endorphins which are the body’s natural pain reliever.
The minor trauma caused by the insertion of these micro-needles into the skin improves the circulation of blood on the face and also stimulates the re-growth of cells.
The needles are in essence put in the vortex points where the energy (Chi) passes through and this leads to a more efficient flow of energy from organs thus rejuvenating the skin. In addition to this, the trauma that the skin undergoes when the micro-needles are inserted encourages the production of a healing collagen.
Collagen is a protein which the human body utilizes in order to keep the skin elastic and youthful.
It is also important to note that the micro-needles are not inserted on the face alone, but on the whole body. The purpose of this is to cleanse the meridians (energy pathways) before work on the face formally begins. Needles that are inserted in the hands, legs and feet are meant to increase the subject’s flow of blood around the body and are specific in targeting the kidney and its ability to cleanse the whole body’s system before proceeding to the face and temple.
Cosmetic acupuncture is hence recommended for people seeking to rejuvenate their skin for the youthful look it would bring as it cheaper and has no negative side effects on the body. A session of facial acupuncture would cost you around $98 which is cheaper as compared to other methods of skin rejuvenation such as Botox which would cost an individual around $365 for a single session.
