On October 31st 1950 in Baghdad, Iraq, Zaha Hadid was born to a multi-culture Arab family .
Hadid was influenced by her mom, Wajiha al-Sabunji, who was an artist.
Hadid was interested in designing and drawing since she was little. During her childhood, her parents sent her abroad to Europe for education. Hadid studied math in college and built upon a very strong foundation for later architecture design involving some very complicated figures and geometric shapes. Studying math also trained her to think precisely which her profession needed. Later, Hadid entered an architectural school in London. Hadid soon got noticed by people with her skilled representations in drawing. She was able to portray her innovative ideas and depict the power that she expected her project would express with her sketches and drawings. Unlike traditional architectural sketches, Hadid liked to use abstract and elegant colors to illustrate spatial mapping, projective geometry, and diagrammatic programming. And she introduced a unique and influential architectural drawing format. When asked about her innovative style of sketching, Hadid said, “It all started with me drawing to represent a project in a non-conventional way…In time these drawings, projections and paintings became a design tool.” Hadid’s ideas were said to be impressive but seems almost impossible to build in real life.
