A dream not merely of Mr. Barack Obama, however a dream borne by the leaders of the American civil liberties motion such as Frederick Douglas, Rosa Parks and Dr. Martin Luther King.

One fantastic vision, which we Bahamians seem to forget today, is our country itself. We had a vision to be an independent nation. We had a vision to be devoid of all grasps. Our vision came to life through hard work, decision, teamwork and most significantly faith.

We had faith in our ability, faith in the power to change the way in which our country was ruled, and faith in ourselves to see it through to the end; majority rule and nationhood, independence All visions are not completed. Many People today just don’t seem to have the patience to persevere. We seem to have forgotten the old saying that “the race is not for the swiftest but for he who endures to the end. ” We appear to lack the discipline, unwilling to stay the course to see our vision into being. We lack patience to take small steps or little strides, to work in phases to see our plan to completion.

The introduction of modern technology , to some extent has contributed to this. We have become a people who expect instant gratification. Additionally, some of us lack the basic abilities to envision, believing something is possible or can be improved beyond its present state. We lack abstract thinking, to think creatively instead of staying inside our comfort zone; because of this our visions will perish. Everything starts with a vision. Our visions are the blueprints to success. In the words of Denis Waitley “A dream is your creative vision for your life in the future.
