The Story of the Lord of the Flies

The story of the Lord of the Flies starts when a British plane crashed in the Pacific Ocean. Several boys aged 6-12 years can survive on an isolated island. Being alone on a deserted island, they develop and organize rules and systems. But in the end, they changed into violent boys.

The main characters are:

Ralph human is the novel's protagonist. He represents civilization and order. He makes himself the leader of the group and does this role without any hesitation.

Ralph reflects the human instinct for the organization. As soon as they reach the island, he takes off his school uniform expressing that it is unsuitable for the tropical weather. Without any hesitation, he overcomes the former lifestyle and in this way, he differs completely from some of the other boys so he is a pragmatic character. Also, he is practical because he builds shelters, starts a signal fire, and sets up a system to make sure that the fire does not go out.

Sam and Eric (Samneric) are twins and they are followers of Ralph. When they are captured, they are forced to be members of Jack's tribe. They cling to the old civilization. Although they do not have much power in the novel, they stand for the majority of the population.

This novel is full of symbols but the most noticed one is ' The Lord of Flies' which is a pig's head on a spike that is being eaten by flies. So it is a symbol of the brutality of the boys.

In addition, The Lord of Flies includes many themes the good versus evil which is the central theme and expresses human nature as well.

To summarize, Lord of the Flies questioned very powerful and meaningful ideas about the nature of humankind. It discusses the good instincts of human beings versus the bad ones, the struggle between reality and illusion, and confusion and regulation.
