Genuine Interest in Helping Others Sparked My Pursuit of Nursing

Nursing is a profession that is very demanding both physically and mentally. It requires empathy, interpersonal skills, and a drive to seek greater knowledge everyday. However, with hard work and dedication, the career can bring great reward and job satisfaction to ones life. I do believe I can bring all these qualities to the table. At a young age, I have had the genuine interest in helping others As a teenager, I worked at a community center, helping inner city children with after school activities and homework.

During the summer, I also joined a camp for children and helped them through vast amounts of outdoor activities and teaching them to reach their full potentiali As I got older, I realized I wanted to help others through the healthcare field. I started with volunteering at NYU Lagone Medical Center, There, I was able to really get a feel for what the medical field had to offer both for the patient and myaelf, I then started shadowing numerous nurse practitioners and it really fascinated me.

I then started working as a medical scribe at a number of hospitals including Vassar Brothers Medical Center, Putnam Health Center, and Ellenville Hospital. As a medical scribe, I was able to both help the physician in the emergency department with their documentation and observe the “how to’s" of being a provider. Although working with the physician taught me an immense amount of knowledge, the nurses working under the physician really poked my interest.

They seemed to be the ones really giving that one on one care I wanted to one day implement.
