School Shootings in the United States

With the development and rise of use of guns, school shootings have increased dramatically in the United States. School shootings happen in every state of the United States; no matter where the school is located, there will be massacres due to people with mental problems, bullying, and drug intoxication. School shootings has had a devastating impact on families and communities, especially has impacted every student in the Country. A school shooting is a problem which origins are rooted in the family background, and the ability to carry weapons.

As school shootings continue to occur in the United States, schools are no longer a safer environment.

For most students in the United States, schools are no longer a safer environment. Most students feel insecure about going to school because they are afraid that a shooting can happen. Even though schools seem really secured and protected, students can hide weapons and bring them to school. Although schools have officers to protect schools, and way more technology to decrease the entrance of weapons to school, that is not enough.

In schools, you can find all types of personalities, that you do not know who can bring a weapon to school.

Therefore in some schools, faculty do not pay attention to students and students behave however they want. When school faculty do not pay close attention to students, they have a better opportunity of bringing weapons to school. They have better chances because they are not being watched and they have more freedom to do things.

According to Barbara Wood, an Almanac author argues that “our world is and can be a suddenly violent place”. According to Wood, violence can be found anywhere and anyone can cause it.

School shootings is a problem which origins are rooted in the family background. When students do not receive a lot of attention at home by their parents, they do not get enough education and they do what they want. There is sometimes when a family do not get along with each other, the kids learn from that and they repeat the steps from their parents. There are some cases where kids are depressed from family problems that they transformed themselves into someone who can cause a lot of damage without thinking or caring about others. When problems in a family are shown, kids do not grow with the love of parents, which later on can affect them in the future.

One of the causes of school shootings is school bullying. Many of the shooters/killers had been victims of bullying in school which made them turn their frustration against their classmates and teachers/faculty. When someone is being bullied in school, they get frustrated and hold all their anger and then they release it against their classmates. A school shooting can happen in every school, although campuses of K-12 public schools are the most affected ones. There are some cases where school shootings occur in colleges and universities, where students are freer to do stuff. Every year innocent people are losing their lives because of someone who has no control of themselves.

School shootings can be caused by students or other people with mental problems, or people who have depression. When those persons have a mental problem they have no idea what they are doing and they do not think about the damage that they can cause. Also some school shootings are caused by people who are under the influence of drugs. When they are under the influence of drugs they are transformed into someone else causing a lot of damage. In most school shootings a lot of students end up injured and than later die. Every year in the United States hundreds of students die from school shooting. In every school shooting there are deaths, and a lot of people end up injured. Mental health problems have been suggested as a major cause.

Although people think that there are no solutions for school shootings, if we take precautions we can stop school shootings. One of the biggest changes that schools need to hire more police officers for enforcing security. More schools are getting metal detectors, and are increasing the security. Nowadays they are installing cameras in schools, which help to control the students. Also those cameras are helpful to see students' actions, and to see their location at school. Another solution is that if the students ask for help to treat their problems that can help them to avoid committing bad actions. If they get the help they are going to get support from others and they will feel loved and they will not do bad things to harm others. Also they will stop thinking about causing damage to others.

Not all school shootings have the same consequences; there is sometimes where the killers are intercepted quickly without causing any damage. On the other hand there have been school shootings end up with deaths and injuries. Some of the worst school shootings include such as the University of Texas massacre in 1996 with 17 deaths. Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 with 28 deaths. Columbine High School massacre in 1999 with 15 deaths. Virginia Tech massacre in 2007 with 33 deaths. Those are some of the top worst school massacres in the United States. In most of those massacres, there were a lot of injuries, and the killers were students under the influence of drugs and have suffered bullying in school.

In conclusion, in the past 18 years, more people have died or been injured in mass school shootings in the United States than in the 20th century. Due to the ability to access a firearm, school shooting has increased dramatically in the United States. Teenagers have the access to firearms and some of them have been trained on how to use a gun. One of the main factors explaining school shootings in the United States is the easy access to guns. Since teenagers nowadays have more freedom to do stuff, their ability to get a gun allows them to do more harm and damage to society.
