5 billion by 2022. (Kremer). Plastic surgery is a life changing experience and not only for women but men as well. Cosmetic procedure for men has risen over 40% since 2010. In the editorial Cosmetic Surgery- Will It Really Change Your Life written by Kathryn Holmes she states Everything is fair game in the male arena nowadays and the most popular include nose jobs also known as rhinoplasty and facelifts to eye lifts. (Holmes) She also states that the rises in the number of people who go through plastic surgery is not only because it's a new meteoric trend but that studies have shown in American culture being perfect is a way to being successful but is this really the case? Plastic surgery continuously happens globally with the top five countries being the United States, Brazil, Japan, Italy, and Mexico. However, despite all the normalization it has earned over the years there are many drawbacks and risks that come with it as well. First, it's an extremely expensive procedure that can range up to thousands of dollars. Most of the money will go to surgeon fees, check up fees, anesthesia fees and other medication costs must also be factored in when considering paying for plastic surgery. So, what is the truth about plastic surgery chains or is it simply another attempt to making money in the market. In the article The Truth About Plastic Surgery Chains written by Jennifer Greer she talks about all the red flags that can be seen when going to these plastic surgery chains. The first red flag to watch out for is high-pressure sale tactics that may include requiring you to put money down before you ever meet a physician or insisting on applying for a loan at your initial consultation. (Greer) Plastic surgeons should be able to be trusted and perform in the way they're expected to and sometimes which may not always be the case. Reading reviews and putting self care and health first will make a more controversial impact on any decisions. Dr. David H. Song, the president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, told Healthline it is advised to do a lot of research in finding the right certified surgeon before they go through any type of cosmetic surgery, (Dr. David H. Song) Faith and truth are synonyms of confidence, most importantly meaning faith is the biggest confidence, and in this case they are used in the sense of reliance that starts with the patient and his or her safety (Mauricio Parada, M.D.) There has been cases where people will pay for the surgery and wake up from the anesthesia to no feeling of any changes made. There has also been many cases where people go to uncertified doctors who end up putting them through dangerous procedures that are just carried out badly. Which in these cases are known as botched. To be botched in when cosmetic or reconstructive surgery is performed incorrectly, which sometimes may lead up to an unpleasant appearance that can't always be fixed. Dealing with a botched job after can also be a result of how your body takes in all the injections in or even depending on how well you take care and rest afterward. The largest issues at stake when undergoing plastic surgery are the most common types of complications which include infections, necrosis, wound separation, fluid collections or abscesses, and blood clots. said Natalie Kita in the article Bad Plastic Surgery Complications and Realities. Going through a botched complication will not only affect a patient's physical health but also their mental health as well as it can be a very draining experience to go through. Other poor surgery outcomes include scarring or bleeding and nerve damage or numbness and even death. Medical errors that are preventable take the lives of 400,000 people every year and are the third leading cause of death in the United States alone not including around the world. Many of these fatal errors come from operations such as plastic surgery. The most luxurious clinics for plastic surgery are in Miami and that also means the most deaths there as well and according to The Miami Herald, there were 46 office surgery deaths in Florida between the year 2000 and 2010. The deadliest of all plastic procedures are the Brazilian butt lifts, which has been seen as one of the most popular procedures done in the last 5 years, doubling the amount of any other surgery. The procedure involves taking fat from areas of the body where it's not wanted with liposuction and injecting it into the buttock area. Injecting fat into the buttock can easily lead to serious problems if done incorrectly. In a journal written by Jim Frame, it states that These include a fat embolism when fat enters the bloodstream and blocks a blood vessel. In the lungs, for example, it blocks oxygen from entering the bloodstream, while in the brain it can cause a stroke " both can be fatal. (Frame) In an article written by CBS News, a fiance seeks murder charge for woman's death after her botched plastic surgery in Mexico performed by a careless plastic surgeon. The woman died from brain swelling that later resulted in a heart attack due to the injection of the anesthesia being wrongfully placed. sources were told by the woman's attorney. There are many ways patients can die from plastic surgery like the injection or administered toxic doses of local anesthetic which cause cardiac arrest. In the article Cosmetic Surgery Kills it is written that The patient suffers airway obstruction and impairment of their breathing because of the sedation provided. This is what likely played a role in the death of Michael Jackson and Joan Rivers. Without the skills, equipment and facilities to provide an airway and breathing support patients will continue to die unnecessarily.
