Negative Effects of Computer Addiction

Nowadays, society is becoming too dependent on computers and technology, for functioning in everyday life to perform different tasks. The computer has been one of man’s most influential inventions. They have become so necessary in one’s life that it is difficult to believe that they are a relatively recent invention. The internet, computers, and other devices are used almost everywhere like schools, offices, transportation. Likewise, the more we depend on technology, the more we lose our thinking ability. People obsess on computers not only to study but also for business and entertainment purposes.

We are too dependent on computers because we use them for everything.

There are many causes and effects of using computers in excess.

Firstly, children are more prone to computers or laptops. In order to complete their home works and use their thinking abilities to write some essays, they use the internet to get the summary instead. In this way, they end up staying up too late and watching the screen, which affects their eyesight.

The children also face behavioral problems including aggressive behavior.

Headaches, backaches, and disturbances in sleep are other symptoms of using a computer for a very long period. Also, they get disturbed by their regular schedules of sleeping, playing, studying, etc., which leads to the failure of certain things in life. (Department of Health and Human Services, 2015)

Furthermore, computers are harming family relationships and cutting off their communication. In earlier times, families use to sit together and talk about their everyday routine, discuss some important aspects of life and parents told stories to their kids at night.

With these communications, the parent's and children's bonds were very deep, and they had a good understanding of them.

However, in modern days, there are no such things that exist. Family life is less face-to-face contact. The capacity of computers and PDA’s are not constrained to, Internet surfing.

Moreover, the biggest cause of the excessive use of computers is laziness. It leads to obesity, can render one apathetic to reactant mental health issues. There is no need to get out of the houses. If anybody wants to eat, go on computers and order online. Also, news can be heard or read with just one click on our digital gadgets. People have become couch potatoes. They do not have to put forth any effort to do things because they can be easily done at a push of a button. (Jackson, D. 2017). In the same way, entertainment can be done by sitting at home. In the same way, entertainment does not need to go out and play. There are different sites like Netflix, watch online movies that can be used to watch movies and entertain by sitting at home.

To encapsulate, I would like to say that, although computers are putting a bad effect on children and families, their advantages can’t be outweighed. It helps every person to look beyond the abilities and to flourish with some new ideas, that might help them in future. As every coin has two sides, in the same way, if you use computers wisely, they will enhance the knowledge otherwise it may be the cause of destruction as well.
