Traveling has always been a passion of mine, especially to the picturesque destinations within the Philippines. I've had the pleasure of visiting numerous places, such as Pangasinan, Quezon Province, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bataan, La Union, Baguio, and Tagaytay. Among these, Baguio holds a special place in my heart, and the memories of my trips to this enchanting city remain etched in my mind.
One particular trip to Baguio stands out prominently in my memory. It was January 1, 2011, and I embarked on this journey with my uncle's family, accompanied by my sister and husband.
The anticipation filled the air as I woke up at 4 AM, knowing that our departure was scheduled for 5 AM. The four-hour journey brought us closer to the cold embrace of Baguio's atmosphere, a feeling that I distinctly remembered from my previous visits seven years ago.
Upon arrival, the familiar chill was accompanied by a subtle change, a nuance that reflected the evolving nature of this city.

As their seasoned guide, my husband and I took on the role of introducing Baguio's wonders to our eager companions. Our day began with a hearty breakfast at KFC in Session Road, where I indulged in fried chicken, rice, coffee, and a delightful sundae for dessert – a perfect start to our exploration.
The first stop after breakfast was the iconic Baguio Cathedral, a site they had never experienced before. Excitement filled the air as they captured the moment through numerous pictures, each pose reflecting their genuine joy.
Despite the foggy weather obscuring some views, our determination to document the experience prevailed.
We then proceeded to the revitalized Baguio Botanical Garden, a place that had transformed since my last visit. The systematic layout and cleanliness added a new layer of beauty. The cave connecting Botanical Garden to Mines View Park intrigued us with its historical significance, serving as a fortress for Filipino soldiers during wartime.
Wright Park offered a different adventure as we indulged in horseback riding, creating more cherished memories. Mines View, with its silver jewelry shops, became a must-visit, courtesy of my generous uncle. After a day filled with exploration, we concluded our journey with a return to Barrio Fiesta. Despite our hunger, the late lunch was a feast, fueling our spirits for the remaining escapades.
Our exploration continued with purchases of Baguio's renowned strawberries, ube jam, strawberry jam, and other delectable local treats. The weariness of the day's adventures began to settle in, but the collective exhaustion was a testament to the vastness of Baguio's offerings, contrasting with its modest geographical size compared to other areas like Gapan.
In retrospect, the journey to Baguio encapsulated the essence of exploration and discovery. The city's ever-changing landscape, coupled with its historical richness, provided a backdrop for unforgettable moments. As we returned home with bags filled with Baguio's treasures, the enduring charm of this city lingered in our hearts.
Baguio's beauty lies not just in its scenic spots but in the warmth of shared experiences. Each visit to familiar places brought forth new perspectives, emphasizing that the true essence of exploration is found in the evolving connection between the traveler and the destination. Baguio, with its thorny roads and blooming roses, remains a testament to the intricate balance of challenges and joys that define every memorable journey.
