Messi’s Loyalty to the Man He Loved

Categories: Messi

The patient is Bobby Ventura, a 50 year old white male who resides in the suburbs of Pompano Beach, Florida. He presents with delayed thought patterns and avoidant behavior due to residual use of heroine and traumatizing childhood experiences. He was professionally diagnosed with Avoidant Personality Disorder after achieving sobriety in his forties.

Bobby was raised in a lower-class family with mixed faith. His mother, Messi Ventura, was born and raised in Persia to a wealthy and respected family. In contrast, his father, Robert Ventura, was a poor Catholic soldier, who, at the time of meeting Messi, was stationed in Persia.

They met while he was out on patrol, and fell in love, despite her family’s wishes. Throughout their romance, they made a pact, secretly got married, and agreed to move to the United States, disregarding what her parents wanted. Although Messi chose to be with a man she loved rather than be subjected to an arraigned marriage, she was forced to trade her “royalties” and demote herself to a pauper.

Although she believed giving up her wealth would be the ultimate sacrifice for love, she would later regret the decision, unable to go back. This reality would add to the issues they would eventually face in their relationship.

Bobby had a difficult childhood, with many family issues contributing to the problems he faced. Many of the problems originate from events that took place prior to his birth that would later affect his childhood, which include financial struggles, alcoholism and domestic abuse.

Most of these issues carried over after Bobby’s birth and intensified throughout his childhood, with many other issues arising in addition to the current ones. At a young age, Bobby internally struggled with his sexuality, as he identified as gay. Both of his parents were avid followers in their religions, constantly practicing the ways of their beliefs. Unable to acknowledge it, Bobby was compelled to hide his reality, which lead to his voluntary isolation. Eventually, Bobby declared his sexuality to his parents, hoping to experience relief from the internal struggles. However, the problem was that Bobby’s sexuality went against their beliefs and instead, subjected him to ridicule and further abuse, both physically and verbally.

The most prominent issue, however, was what Bobby did to himself. Bobby had an older sister, Sarah Ventura, who was addicted to Heroin for many years. She introduced Bobby to Heroin when he was 13 years old and provided him with his first shot, becoming the dose that changed his inability to say “no”. The struggle intensified when Sarah overdosed within a week of Bobby’s first time, dying in his arms. This would change his life forever, resulting in his excessive use of heroin. His addiction would last for 27 years, solely focusing on how to obtain drugs, not caring who was affected by his choices and mistakes. At age 40, he involuntarily became sober when his cousins committed him to a facility, and although his sobriety helped regain his health, his mentality would forever be altered. I strongly believe that if Bobby had an alternative upbringing where the challenges he faced were essentially nonexistent, he would not suffer from this disorder and his addiction to heroin. Bobby’s upbringing played a pivotal role in his diagnosis of Avoidant Personality Disorder because it altered the way he presented himself, it compelled him to use drugs, and it affected his relationship with others.
