Choosing my Charity: A Compelling Letter to the House Captain

For the up coming house event I believe that I have found a very worthwhile charity that would really benefit from the money we raise. The charity is called Shelter and it helps anyone with housing problems and people who are homeless. Despite our lavish lifestyles in Britain, there are still thousands of homeless people. Many chose to ignore this problem, yet it is serious and on the rise. This charity deserves our money; they do a fantastic job in reducing street homelessness.

They would be especially grateful for our money at this time of the year as Christmas is approaching - a time in which we spend plentifully on presents and enjoy the spirit of the holiday season. It would be great if we could help these homeless people to have somewhere to live and enjoy their Christmas day, just like we get to do by sharing our fortunes with them. Together we could make a difference and rejuvenate other people's lives.

For just �5 a month Shelter can help someone find and keep a home. This means that with the money we raise we would be able to help various homeless people for several months to keep the home that they ought to have and get them back onto the life they should be able to lead. An old, battered, age-torn five pound note is a common sight in our clothe pockets and purses, and for many of us will not stretch far. We would not be worse off without a pound coin or two.

Contrastingly, if we could raise �500, up to a hundred people could have their lives back, showing the impact this school could have if we all donated as little as a pound to this charity.

The money would also help the free helpline that is open 365 days-a- year to keep running and giving housing advice to anybody that needs it. This is essential to those people who need advice, support and reassurance about their life. Therefore, I firmly believe our school should consider supporting this charity because it is a brilliant cause, and without public support Shelter cannot continue to help these vulnerable people who are sleeping rough on the streets.

Shelter helps 170,000 people a year fight for their human rights, get back on their feet, and find a stable home. This is a significant amount of people and they can only continue to help these people through public donation and through fund raising events as there are no government funds in place. This means that it is critical that the public and charity events held by people and groups like us support this charity, and our fundraising is the perfect example of this.

The money we could give to this charity will make a difference to hundreds of lives; everyday numerous people a get the chance of a new life with the help of Shelter. Our funds will help their project of reducing the amount of people who are homeless and roaming the streets. Just like us, these people deserve a house and Shelter can achieve this for them. This is why we should give the money we raise to Shelter. It will make all the difference to these peoples life and for some people it will be the best Christmas present they will ever receive.
