In today’s competitive world, leadership skills are crucial for both personal and professional development. People require good leadership skills at personal, professional and at the social level. Leadership is an important function of management which helps an individual or a business to maximize efficiency and to achieve goals. Leadership has different meanings to various people. To me it means showing commitment, trustworthiness, and having time management.
The first type of leadership skill that I demonstrate is commitment. While growing up I have committed my time to alot of things, but the main one that I have committed to the most recently was school.
I committed a lot of my time with school work because I realized the better grade point I obtain the more money I can receive for college. But besides school I have also focused on committing my time to softball. If I didn't commit a lot of my time then I wouldn't be able to play at the next level like I am doing.
I also need to show my teammates that I am a good teammate and am willing to put in the needed work. I don't just focus on softball on the sports side of this. I also commit a lot of time to basketball. In order to achieve a winning season I realized putting in a lot of hard work during the season and the off season is one of the main ways to make a long run in the postseason tournament. This is needed in college because since I am continuing to play softball in college I will need to be able to commit a lot of my time to both school and softball.
The second type of leadership skill that I demonstrate is trustworthiness.
Throughout school and growing up with the same people by your side was important to me. Though some people have came and gone most have stayed by me. That is because I kept my word to them and they did the same in return. Having negative people in your life and people that you cannot trust makes you actually look at who you can really trust. The ones to keep by you are the ones who keep their word, the ones who don't pressure you into doing something you don't want to do, and keeping private information that you don't want spread to themselves. If someone asks me to be honest to them I will be. I won't be the one who tells someone what they want to hear, I tell them the honest truth that I think. If my friend asks me if what they are wearing looks good together and it really doesn't then I would tell them the truth. Although it may hurt their feelings at first they normally agree with me and end up changing to something that actually looks good together. In college with meeting new people you need to show them that they can trust you in order to keep them with you through the next few years and maybe even beyond that. If you lose their trust in the beginning they may stop being around you and the word might get out with others.
The third type of leadership skill that I demonstrate is time management. Playing sports through my life so far has helped me with time management greatly. Knowing that I have practice after school I tried to get the most homework done during school so I had little to none to do at home. If I knew I had games on the weekend or something else to do on the weekend I always tried to do it all beforehand either be ahead during the week or do it friday. Currently working a job and also going to school and playing sports I realized what is important and what needs to get done first in order to be able to accomplish everything that I am doing while doing it all with good quality. With continuing to play softball next year I am devoting a lot of my free time to that sport, and I will also need to focus on school as well. With all that going on in my free time I need to use it wisely and do all the work I need to during that time because I don't know when I will have free time again.
Though these are not the only types of leadership that I show, these are the ones that I mainly focus on. As you can tell leadership can different meanings to various people. To me the biggest points that I focus on to be a good leader for my peers and the people that I am close with or random people are time management, trustworthiness, and commitment. Though these are not the only
