Effect of Science and Thecnology on Society
Science and technology has had a big impact on our society and continues to grow. Its changed how we communicate, the way we work, transportation etc. You often hear people talk about if people were to drop their religion or disconnect from it the world would fall apart. But when you look at Ebola for example it is currently a damaging issue. It isn’t in Sweden or highly secular Estonia.
Scientific Solution to Climate Change Issue
It is in various African nations where God is heavily worshipped, church is heavily attended, and pray is heavily engaged in. So when people say that religion is everything and is the “cure” it’s really hard to agree to that. Technology has provided certain aspects for the improvement of the human condition and progress. Beginning with the plow, science has changed how we live and what we believe. By making life easier, science has given man the chance to pursue societal concerns such as ethics, aesthetics, education, and justice to create cultures and to improve the human conditions. But it has also placed us in the unique position of being able to destroy ourselves. It’s crazy to see the impact science has on society and the way its evolved through the years. Science has a much greater selection when it comes to dealing with situations in a more practical way than politics, religion and any other opinion-based system will ever have. The problem mainly is in those who refuse to listen to what nature has to tell us. Regarding belief in climate change and the need to change our behavior?
Half of Americans don’t believe that climate change will occur let alone affect them. Which shows how uneducated they are because we are already being affected by climate change. Some believe that it won’t affect the US or that it will occur in hundred years from now. But if you notice more and more wildfires are happening, earthquakes, hurricanes. People find it hard to believe because it’s not a change they see on a day to day basis. Can science and technology save us from the problems? There’s a great possibility, because we already know that nuclear power is a way of producing electricity free of carbon emissions, but we have yet to harness it in a way that is truly safe and cost-effective. There’s a Canadian company called General Fusion that is working on making the the world’s first viable nuclear fusion energy power plant. Another thing that new technology is being worked on is the potential to create electric cars that can travel the same distance that a car in gasoline does without the hassle of recharging it every so often The goal is to make a battery that can also be charged in the same amount of time that it takes to fill your car with gas. Food is another issue that were facing and about 25% of the global emission comes from feeding the world’s 7 billion people and that’s because it’s the consumption of meat.
Attempts to Reduce Global Emission
An alternative that a company has found which is supported by Bill Gates is the production of meat that is completely plant based and it’s made from vegetable protein found in peas. Investors are looking into producing lab grown meat which taste and look just like it. When you step back and look how much it takes to run the world the way we currently do you can see that making the things we use on a daily basis puts a tremendous pressure on our climate causing all this changes that could eventually kill us. So as you can see when you put science and technology together it has the possibility to save us. It’s being cautious as to how it’s being put to use and not taking advantage of its resources.
