Today, fast food has become a large part of many American’s lives. With the rising numbers of obese people, it is hard not to draw a connection between the increase in fast food consumption and obesity. Fast food is very popular in America. Data from the U.S Department of Agriculture found that Americans spend 10% of their throwaway income on fast food every year. Fast food and obesity seem to fit well together. It is often been blamed that fast food is one of the major causes of obesity.
When deliberating the issue of obesity, it seems to be that there is a lot of blame to go around. Many argue American’s are obese because of poor food selections, over-eating and the lack of exercise. While others blame it on fast-food chains and restaurants. Even though fast food and the lack of exercise are a big part of obesity, fast food alone is not the only cause because certain genetics and medical problems are also linked to obesity.
Fast food and the lack of exercise are a big part of obesity. This statement is not shocking considering that the lack of exercise and fast food eating habits together causes obesity. The lack of physical activity is one of the major reasons for the growing rates. One cause of this is that the new modern technologies which have grown in this generation and therefore have created lazier Americans. The lack of exercise and the fast food consumption has been a major cause of health problems today.
Among the health issues associated with fast food and the lack of exercise is high blood pressure, and heart disease. Because of the health problems associated with fast food and the lack of exercise it does supports the fact that fast food and the lack of exercise are a big part of obesity. Another example that shows that fast food and the lack of exercise are a big part of obesity is sleep apnea. Most people with sleep apnea are either overweight or obese. Sleep apnea has many different possible causes, but the most common cause of sleep apnea is excess weight. Because fast food and the lack of exercise leads to obesity, and obesity leads to sleep apnea this does support the fact that fast food and the lack of exercise are a big part of obesity.
