The main reason I honor the American flag is to honor the loved ones who have died and fought for my country. There are many other reasons why I honor the flag; like how the colors have different meaning; white means purity and innocence, red means hardiness & valour and blue means vigilance, perseverance & justice. The American flags stripes represent the original 13 Colonies and the stars represent the 50 states of the Union.
My reason to honor the American flag is somewhat quite different than most people\'s reasons.
I honor the flag because it reminds me to always respect my country, no matter what color or race they are or how they act towards me. I honor the American flag because of my long family history of relatives that have fought and served for my country.
The American flag is folded 13 times and handed to widows at a burial of a veteran or at an honorable retirement ceremony from military service.
The first fold of the American flag represents the symbol of life, the second fold of the flag signifies the belief in eternal life, the third fold is made to honor and pay tribute of the veteran departing our ranks, and who gave a portion of his or her life for the defense of our country to make peace.
According to the United States Navy Goatlocker, “When the Flag is completely folded, the stars are uppermost, reminding us of our national motto, “In God We Trust.” It takes on the appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were faithfully followed by their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States…preserving for us the rights, privileges, and freedoms we enjoy today.”(2019, 9/25/19; (http://goatlocker.org/cpo.html)
Elizabeth Betsy Ross under the instruction of President George Washington constructed the first American flag.
The flag has been used numerous times to display our nationalism, as well as our rebellion, and everything else in between. The flag is mainly important because its history tells the story of America itself. The flag also represents the freedom, dignity, and the true meaning of being an American. That is why I honor the American flag.
