Depiction Of Love And Hate In Romeo And Juliet

The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare is about two main characters, who are supposed to be enemies, fall in love. Because their families have a big conflict going on, they can not be together. They end up killing themselves because they can not handle being apart. There are many characters that can be blamed for the death of Romeo and Juliet, but the most blamed are Friar Lawrence, Capulet, and Tybalt.

One of the most blamed is Friar Lawrence.

Friar Lawrence adds major details to the play. He is to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he kept Romeo and Juliets relationship a secret and left Juliet alone in the Capulet Tomb giving both Romeo and Juliet a chance to kill themselves. ?Thy husband in thy bosom there lies dead, and paris too. Come, i'll dispose of thee among a sisterhood of holy nuns.? (5.3.155.159). When Juliet awakens and finds Romeo dead, Friar Lawrence tells Juliet that fate ruined their plans.

He is saying this because he does not want to admit that he played a big role in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. Another quote that shows that he is to blame is ?Romeo, there dead, was the husband to that Juliet, and she, there dead, that Romeos faithful wife. I married them? (5.3.235.237). This shows that Friar Lawrence marries Romeo and Juliet even though Friar Lawrence knew it was a bad idea. He married them thinking how they would tell the parents and what the outcome would be.

Even though Friar Lawrence was just trying to help his actions played a major role in the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.

The next character to be blamed is Capulet. Capulet is Juliet's father and head of the Capulet house. Capulet also contributed to their deaths because he made such a big deal when Juliet said she did not want to marry Paris. ?To go with Paris to Saint Peters church, or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither. Out you green-sickness carrion! Out, you baggage! You tallow-face!? (3.5.150.257). This quote shows that Capulet will kick Juliet out if she does not marry Paris she will be kicked out. Another quote is ?Capulet, Montague, See what a scourge is laid upon your hate, that heaven finds means to kill your joys with love! And I, for winking at you, discords too, have lost a brace of kinsmen. All are punish'd? (5.3.). This quote shows that if there was no feud between the houses in the first place then Romeo and Juliet could be together and open about their relationship. Because of the fight, they had to hide their love and killed themselves because they could not handle being apart.

The third person to be blamed is Tybalt. Tybalt is Juliet's cousin and a Capulet. Tybalt kills Mercutio and Romeo kills Tybalt out of anger. Tybalt has a clear hate towards the Montagues. ?It fits when such a villain is a guest. I will not endure him? (1.5.73.74). This quote is showing that when Tybalt quotes Romeo at the Capulet's party, he immediately wants to remove him. Another quote is ?Boy, this shall not excuse the injuries that thou hast done me, therefore turn and draw? (3.1.61.62). This is showing that even when Romeo is trying to be nice to Tybalt, he still wants to fight Romeo. Tybalt's anger towards the Montegues got himself killed and help with the deaths of Romeo and Juliet.

Although many characters played a role in Romeo and Juliets death the main contributors are Friar Lawrence, Capulet and Tybalt. Friar Lawrence for marrying Romeo and Juliet and for keeping them a secret. Capulet for threatening to kick Juliet out if she didn't marry Paris, and Tybalt for having such strong hate towards the Montagues.
