Technology has forever changed the world we live in. Today society’s biggest problems are solved with the help of technology. We’re online, in one way or another, all day long. Our phones and computers have become reflections of our personalities, our interests and our identities. This world of computers has always fascinated me. I have always enjoyed dabbling with computers and experimenting with different applications because of which I have learned a lot about the binary world. Programming has always intrigued me.

Finding solutions and logics of programmes given by my teachers as soon as possible has been my favourite thing during the subject classes. I helped out people on Quora with their summer assignments as I believe in the statement “Practice makes a man perfect.”

I trust in the fact that there’s nothing more satisfying than giving back and making a difference in the lives of people in the society. This thought led my friends and I to form “Smiley”, an NGO in which we plant trees, donate money and food to orphanages.

In all these years, I had been carved out, shaped and transformed from a dreamy eyed juvenile to a youth who has a clear vision of his dreams. Now my days in school are numbered as I embark on a sojourn beyond the realms of the school. These formative years had instilled in me-assurance and aptitude to form a realistic view of the outside world.

I have learnt that it is the combination of skills and academics that paves the path for success in life. With the passage of time, I learnt that everything I will aspire for in life will not be in my comfort zone and for things to be in favour of me I have to walk an extra mile. My analytical and logical thinking along with good time management skills bring out the best in me. Talking about my academic journey, I always had a keen interest in the subjects of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. I was so enthralled by the concepts and theories of these subjects that I decided to go for the Science stream in Grade XI. I was always praised by my school teachers for being interactive in the class which inspired me to keep doing my best. Over the years, I have maintained a consistent performance throughout my academic years and have been involved in the on-going co-curricular and cultural activities at school which enhanced my knowledge.

I have always been into sports. It has taught me to be punctual and how important physical exercise is. I have played many sports since my childhood but the game of cricket has mesmerised me the most. From Leadership to team spirit and from dedication to thrill, cricket has made me understand the value of everything. Bringing fun to my life I participated in several dance and music competitions. These experiences further enhanced my skills and I kept feeling the power of information awaken my mind.

Learning about the topics related to computer science like strings, arrays, Boolean algebra, computer hardware, inheritance, recursion etc has improved my analytical sills and polished my problem-solving attitude. All this has made me confident about pursuing an undergraduate degree in this very subject. I am a firm believer that breaking down everything and reaching the roads of the problem would yield the best result possible. It is nearly impossible to find any area of life that has not been touched by the world of computers. The IT sector is growing with the tremendous speed in recent times and obtaining a degree in computer science will act as stimulant to my future endeavours.

I chose The City University of Hong Kong as my preferred destination for pursuing my computer science engineering because of its excellent curriculum and faculty. Aside from its strength in higher education it is the fusion of eastern and western influences which will help me build a better personality. The City University of Hong Kong will not only provide me quality international level education but also give me a global environment that fosters understanding people from different countries with different cultures across the globe with varied approach to life. It will assist me in socializing and becoming a global citizen. Pursuing my studies at such an international University will also aid me in accepting cultural diversity.

Studying at CityU will help me gain more knowledge and a better understanding of the subject. The computer science programme at the CityU involve studying techniques and algorithms, computer networking, software engineering, data management, will help me master programming skills and knowledge in computer science for making a successful career in the field of information technology. As the saying goes, a thousand-mile journey begins with a single step. A degree from The City University of Hong Kong will be that step in my journey.
