The Process of Communication

Communication is the process of spreading messages, ideas, information and thoughts from one person to another. This is conveyed by signs, speech, letters, social media, television and radio. Communicating can be more of a challenge than you think, when you realize the many things that can stand in the way of effective communication.

One of the main physical barriers to communication is noise. It is the interference between the speaker and the listener; it disrupts communication such as loud speakers at a party or the sounds from a construction site next to a school.

Another external barrier is poor equipment and technology like bad phone connection which decreases the hearing ability.

According to Napolean Bonaporte: "Ten people who speak make more noise than ten thousand who are silent."
When we feel fatigue, hungry or stress, the ability to communicate is frequently affected.

Sometimes one can be disinterested if the speaker is talking about a bored topic. Emotional attitude is also a barrier because when we are sad, we avoid talking to others and the listener may become defensive, which negatively affects clarity.

Another barrier to communication is information overload.

We receive tons of messages in different ways everyday.
