Are Electric Vehicles Better Than Conventional Vehicles

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is equivalent to magic” a quote given by Sir Arthur C.Clarke.

The world is progressing quickly, and things that looked like a science-fiction fantasy is gradually becoming our current reality. It seems that progress has spread to all spheres of humanity’s life, but one of the most astonishing breakthroughs has been achieved in energy recently. About two decades ago, it appeared that there was no effective alternative to the conventional fossil fuels such as gasoline and oil, but it turned out that there is a cleaner, better, and a way more effective substitute to them; electricity.

Although electric vehicles are not so widespread, more and more people are considering to change their gasoline-fueled vehicles to electric cars. However, there are so many different reasons why you should invest in an electric car such as it is energy efficient, cost-effective and better for the environment.

Firstly, electric vehicles are more energy efficient than conventional vehicles that use gasoline.

This is a quote given by Lois Capps “What we need to do is to improve energy efficiency standards, develop in full-scale renewable and alternative energy and use one resource we have in abundance, our creativity”. According to the U.S. Department of Energy website, for a conventional vehicle, the combustion engine loses 62.3% of fuel as heat, only 15% of the energy stored in the gas tank is used to move the vehicle. While the rest is lost through friction and external forces such as aerodynamic drag. On the other hand, electric vehicles convert chemical energy to become electrical energy at a rate of 90% efficiency.

Furthermore, since electric cars have extremely high torque power, their pickup is very quick and smooth, leaving gas-powered vehicles eating dust. Most people are quite surprised at how much more comfortable the ride is too, and some might say that it makes gas-powered cars seem clunky and clumsy. It is clear that electric vehicles used energy way more efficiently than conventional vehicles. By all accounts, driving an electric car is an absolute pleasure said Richard Branson, who sponsors the Formula E championship car.

An electric vehicle is a great way for its user, as a consumer; to save a lot of money because it is cost effective. Firstly, it is cost effective because it does not require gasoline and is entirely charged by the electricity provided, meaning its user does not need to buy any gasoline ever again to fuel up the vehicles as electric cars run on electrically powered engines. As a result, by driving fuel based vehicles it can burn a hole in its user pocket as the prices of fuel or gasoline tend to fluctuate all the time; as there are a shortages supplies of fossil fuels around the globe which causes the prices to rise. In fact, in February 2015 the price of Ron97 is RM 2.00 per litre but in December 2018 it has risen up as much as 50 cents meaning that now it cost RM 2.50 cents per litre. Besides, it does not need high maintenance like conventional vehicles that need to be check regularly which needed the user to send it to service station often. In addition, with more technological advancements; the cost of maintenance has gone down. The mass production of batteries and available tax incentives has brought down the cost, thus, making it much more cost effective. To sum up, by using electric vehicle people can save money for things that are way more important.

Furthermore, electric vehicles are one of the greatest solutions for a better environment and a fresher air for people to breathe in. Electric vehicles are way more eco-friendly than conventional vehicles as they run on electrically powered engines. For instance, like Nissan LEAF and Tesla Roadster does not need a tailpipe because this electric vehicle does not emit toxic gases, smoke or carbon dioxide to be released as a byproduct of combustion, but purely runs on electricity. Overall they are even better than hybrid cars as hybrids running on gas produce emissions. Even though electric vehicles are not fully 100% eco-friendly and are not truly zero emissions because of the pollution that comes from the electric power plant. However, an electric vehicle reduces 35-65% less carbon dioxide emission from electricity than the carbon dioxide pollution from the gasoline of a conventional vehicle with an internal combustion engine. Research from the department of energy has estimated that conventional vehicles emit 75 lbs of carbon dioxide during a 100-mile trip, in comparison to 32 lbs of carbon dioxide emits from a power plant to generate enough electricity to power an electric vehicle for the same 100 miles. It is very alarming if everyone notice how much does conventional vehicles gases contribute to climate change and global warming. Some areas, where they rely largely on renewable power such as solar, wind or hydro, the emissions are even further less for the electric vehicles. Yet another one of its advantages towards the environment is that the rechargeable batteries that can be easily recycled, almost 100% of the batteries parts can be recycled which keep the old batteries from becoming a disposal problem. Other than air pollution, electric vehicles also help to reduce noise pollution and are way quieter than conventional vehicles. In fact, noise pollution is one of the major problems at every capital of each country like New York City and Tokyo that tend to be bustling all night long. Electric motors are capable of providing a smooth drive with higher acceleration over longer distances. On the other hand, the noise level inside a gasoline vehicle can be as high as 70-80 decibels. In conclusion, an electric vehicle can help people to get a night of better sleep and less stressful noisy environment for people. Moreover, it can contribute to a greener world for the next generation.

To sum up, most people in the world aren’t aware of the seriousness of climate change and global warming have toward earth. “We are running the most dangerous experiment in history right now, which is to see how much carbon dioxide the atmosphere can handle before there is an environmental catastrophe”. So everyone should work together to reduce or solve this problem before it gets out of control. One of the ways is by using electric vehicles rather than conventional combustible vehicles which are energy efficient because it uses energy efficiently by the rate of 90%, also it is cost-effective because it does need high maintenance and electric vehicle are better for the environment because it helps to maximize less carbon dioxide production from conventional vehicles. It is hoped that many people will be a good user and choose electric vehicles rather than conventional vehicles.
