I am writing about reasons we should consider giving animals right. I want to focus on three main reasons health, Environment and Moral. So far I have written some of my general thoughts and health impact of consuming meat. I am currently doing research on Environmental reason and Moral consideration.
Animal rights
Many people believe that animals do not need rights because they are animals not realizing We homo sapien are quite obviously animals. Many people believe we are more important than animals because we are unique with our higher intelligence and morals.
However, what is very revealing is that we can clearly see the rudimentary traces of higher intellect, compassion, problem solving, etc. in the great apes. If you agree with that you should agree animals have an inherent worth completely separate from their usefulness to humans. I believe this because animals have a beating heart, they respond to stimulants, feelings and have a struggle for survival just like us.
Most people are responsible animals(pets) owners who love and care about their pets and it’s only right that you should care about other animals as well. However thats not the case, most people don’t care about things like Trophy hunting, animal testing, factory farming etc. We kill 200 million animals around the world every day not for necessity but for our enjoyment. We care more about the taste than animal life.
Animal rights is the belief that animals have an intrinsic value separate from any value they have to humans, and are worthy of moral consideration.
They have the right to be free of oppression, confinement, use and abuse by humans. They have life and hence the right to be treated well. By respecting animal rights and having consideration for animal welfare we also support ecological balance. Everyone makes a unique contribution to this world we share. We, humans, have our part too; to maintain the balance of life by treating all living things as you would to your friends and family. Animals are just like people. They have feelings and emotions. They don't deserve to be treated the way they are. Animals are living creatures just like us humans are.
Animals should be given rights simply because they are living things. The opposition has stated that animals should not be given rights because they do not contribute to the society of today. However, I disagree as we should give animals rights and respect, because they are like us in many ways. Human beings, too, would not like it if they were treated badly by others of a higher power than them. Living things have the bodily autonomy to do what they please because they have ownership of their body. Having ownership of their body, we have to give them rights for the things they can do. we human beings should not be selfish and we should treat our counterparts with equal respect as they deserve.
I grew up eating meat and never questioned whether It was right or wrong to consume meat. I used to consume meat regularly, twice a day. I have always thought meat and dairy products were essential for human survival or at least healthy life. However after doing some research It turns out there are no nutritional needs for humans to eat any animal products; all of our dietary needs, even as infants and children, are best supplied by an animal-free diet. Not only that apparently according to the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) The consumption of animal products has been conclusively linked to heart disease, cancer, diabetes, arthritis, and osteoporosis. Cholesterol (found only in animal products) and animal fat clog arteries, leading to heart attacks and strokes. The rate of many cancers including colon, breast, cervical, uterine, ovarian, prostate, and lung is highest in regions where meat consumption is high and lowest where meat-eating is uncommon.
A study of more than 25,000 people found that vegetarians have a much lower risk of getting diabetes than meat-eaters. A South African study found not a single case of rheumatoid arthritis in a community of 800 people who ate no meat or dairy products.
