A Boundary Between Romeo and Juliet’s Love

Lovers whose relationship is ill-fated to fail are declared to be “star-crossed” because those who believe in astrology insist that the stars guide human fate. William Shakespeare used the expression to define the lovers in his play, Romeo and Juliet. 

The play of Romeo and Juliet is a unique outcome of feuding between two royal houses. The Tale of Romeo and Juliet was set in 1594 in a town designated as Verona. Verona is a city in northern Italy’s Veneto region, with a medieval aged town developed between the meandering Adige River.

The play includes numerous themes such as love, parents and social status. Romeo and Juliet sincerely adored each other, though they could have avoided a tragic ending if they had been more honest and had a better—more developed relationship with their parents. Romeo and Juliet’s families have hatred for each other, which makes it tough for them as they are challenged to keep their love a secret.

 This implies that the relationship between them and their parents was not that strong. Families these times tend to be closer than the families of the late 1500s. Especially prosperous families from the era when the play was set were not that close either. Juliet’s parents had regulated her to marry Paris, who was a rather affluent individual, but Juliet had other thoughts and was courageous enough to step up to her father. The Capulets and Montagues were the greatest of enemies.

This established a boundary between Romeo and Juliet’s love because they were from these opposing families. Juliet is a Capulet and Romeo being a Montague, would have made it impracticable for their families to support or acknowledge their love to continue. In the Elizabethan period, there were organized marriages, and the daughter had to appreciate her parents’ requests to whom they wanted her to marry; this is distinctly presented in ‘Romeo and Juliet’ as the Capulets try to get her to marry Paris. Family solidarity was predominant at the time. 

The Capulets had an arranged marriage but revealed that they were not satisfied as a couple and showed no devotion and love towards another, ‘Ay Sir’ is what Lady Capulet would call Lord Capulet as if her husband acted like a King and Capulet regards to her as ‘wife.’ This formal language shows no love connecting the two. This indicates that love Of Romeo and Juliet was not vital for marriage.
