What We Can Do To Prevent Drunk-Driving

My project is a tentative research project on how alcohol and drugs can affect your driving and what we can do to prevent it. The number of deaths, accidents, and arrests because of people driving while intoxicated or under the influence continues to grow every year. Therefore, people need to know what alcohol and drugs can do to someone who is going to drive later that night. They also need to know how it affects their driving so that they can judge whether or not to call and uber or have a friend pick them up.

Parents should not have to worry about their kids driving late at night because of all the drunk or impaired drivers that will be on the roads. I plan to research what effect drugs and alcohol have on a person’s central nervous system and how to prevent these devastating things from happening in the future.

Drinking and driving is a bad habit in the state of Texas and even around the world. Even using drugs and driving impaired is a key problem. I aspire to research the cause and effects that drugs and alcohol have on the body and how we can prevent these things from happening in the future. People in this generation need to know what can happen if you get behind the wheel impaired and not fit to drive. With my research, people will have more knowledge on what alcohol and drugs can do to you and what can possibly happen if you get behind the wheel after drinking or using.

With the number of new drivers increasing daily, I see a need to educate them on the effects that alcohol and drugs will have on them if they get behind the wheel. This generation lacks the education and knowledge of the effects that drugs have on them. They think that all it does is make you feel good and relaxed. With alcohol, kids and students in today’s society just want to have fun and live their life to the fullest and don’t think about the consequences. Previous educators and students have tried to get the point across that you should never drink and drive or even take drugs period. This project is necessary to show this generation and the next that drugs and alcohol do not mix with driving and that their lives can depend on the choice they make whether to get behind the wheel or not.

The topics that my project will cover are the effects of drugs while driving, the effects of alcohol while driving, how much drugs or alcohol it takes to be “drunk” or “high”, what drugs and alcohol do to your central nervous system, and how to prevent accidents and deaths by drunk/impaired drivers. My project will not discuss how to drive correctly, what drugs you should take, or what alcohol to drink that is best to drive while in your system. I will be researching how much it takes to impair someone behind the wheel and how we can prevent it from happening in the following generations. I will not in any way support drinking and driving or taking any kind of drugs.

This generation, younger generations to come, and the drug users are the best audience for my proposal because no matter how hard we try to get the point across that drugs and alcohol do not mix with driving, it is these people that can actually make a difference. This research will be able to supply detailed information on this issue that continues to get worse and worse every single year. This audience knows how bad drunk driving or driving under the influence is getting in Texas, that is why they are the perfect audience to present this project to. This way everyone is educated on what could happen if you drink or are under the influence while you drive and what could possibly happen to others because of someone’s actions.

My project is intended for this generation and the younger generations to come. Since this is a proposal on the effects of drugs and alcohol behind the wheel, I am writing to the many generations and also to adults who drink a little more than expected. Also, I am writing to the people who take drugs on a daily basis and showing them how drugs and alcohol affect you and what might happen if you get behind the wheel impaired and not fit to drive. This audience is especially fitted for this project because they are the ones that have to grow up in this world after we are gone. Also, because there is so many crashes and deaths that involve vehicles and drugs or alcohol. These things can be prevented just by a simple choice and that choice could save someone’s life.

To complete this project and come to a conclusion on the effects of drunk driving or driving impaired, I will complete many tasks in order to give my audience a complete and total understanding of the issue. I will have to conduct and complete my research and contact researchers that continue to find ways to prevent these tragic activities. I will administer primary and secondary research to give my audience the best information and the most credible sources possible.

My primary research will consist of finding what the effects of alcohol does to someone before they get behind the wheel. Then I will find what the effects are once they get behind the wheel. These will help me and also my audience better understand what alcohol can do to a person’s mental and physical health state and figure out whether they are fit to drive or not. Next, I will be conducting research on what the influence of drugs does to someone who is not behind the wheel and also once they get behind the wheel, what it has effect on.

My secondary research will consist of acquiring numbers on how many people died in the last 10 years due to drunk or impaired drivers. It will also give me more information on how many arrests there were that the person was charged with DWI or a DUI. Finally, I plan to inspect and analyze the accidents involving drunk drivers and drivers under the influence. This will give me more detailed information in order to shed more light on how bad this issue is becoming. On the Blinn library database, there is one article by J. L. Price, Lewis, B., Boissoneault, J., Frazier, I. R., and Nixon, S. J., “Effects of acute alcohol and driving complexity in older and younger adults” that gives information on the effects alcohol has on your driving such as various speed acceleration and deceleration, wider steering range, and greater distance to come to a complete stop. I plan to pull multiple pieces of information from this source to provide a better understanding of the effects of alcohol while behind the wheel.

Overall, in order to complete this project, I will compose it piece by piece, then revise those pieces, then put it all together in a full rough draft, and revise it multiple times. That way I can credible information as pertaining to my topic. I plan to draft the introduction and the body of my report at a later date to ensure that I get the correct information about my topic. Also, I will revise these drafts and correct any grammar, organization, and simplicity that may make this project simple for my audience.

My availability to work on this report varies throughout the week. I have little time Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays because I have work on those days and can work on my report when I get off. Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays are my best option to work on my report because I don’t have work and can spend a good majority of the day working on it. I have made a chart assigning tasks to each day leading up to the completion of my report.

I believe that I am qualified to conduct this report because of my experience at Producers Coop and working with a guy that was arrested for a DWI. I took this as an opportunity to learn more about what the alcohol did to impair his senses and show that he was not fit to drive a motor vehicle. Also, I spoke to a doctor recently who had a man come in because he was so intoxicated that he was passed out when they brought him in the hospital. When the doctor came back, I asked him about the man and also found out more information on how the alcohol dulls the senses to throw off your judgement of speeds, lane placements, and the distance to or from another object. In doing this, it is also something my parents went through where one of their friends got killed by a drunk driver in college and this is something I would enjoy researching and learning more about to hopefully one day prevent someone from making the wrong decisions to drink and drive or even take drugs and drive impaired.
