What Did I Learn From Information Literacy Course: Knowledge and Skills

I have studied the information literacy course at my university. I studied four subjects during this semester, and it was one of them. Looking back over this semester I feel that I have learned a lot of new and interesting things during this semester. It was my best decision of me to choose this interesting subject. What did I learn in information literacy class? In this essay, I will talk about some important things related to this course, the knowledge, and skills I gain from this course, and some difficulties which I face while studying this course.

Before learning this subject, I was not aware of any concept related to the information literacy course and I had no idea what things are included in this course. But with time I came to know about different interesting topics included in this subject and I have learned a lot of new and innovative things related to this course. Information literacy is the subject that taught about a set of incorporated abilities encircling the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how to produce and value the information, and how to use the information to create a piece of new knowledge from it.

Information literacy subject plays an important role in developing skills in me that contributes a lot to my academic success and has also played an important role in making me an independent, a good presenter, and a lifelong learner.

The most important things which I learned during this course were the big six methods to do research in an efficient and organized manner I have become able to understand the need to use the information and define my research topic, identify the wide range of information resources being available, use information critically and independently, how to conduct research properly and access and use any information being available ethically and legally.

I also learn how to present any topic to the audience in an effective manner, how to prepare presentation slides so that they can be interesting to the audience, and also to give them a complete understanding of any topic. During this subject, I also learned how to work in a team in collaboration and before that I don’t know how to do teamwork. The challenges which I faced while doing teamwork was making effective communication with one another, building trust, and working in collaboration to achieve one goal. I and my teammates overcame these challenges with the help of our doctor. By learning this course I have learned how to search for information in the library. In this era of technology, we find all information easily on the internet, and before this subject, I was not aware of how to search for information in a library as it is a very time and effort-consuming activity.

After this course, I learned about a lot of new things such as how information is organized in libraries, how to find books related to specific topics in library, and also I learned about how to search for information related to a specific topic from the university library website that is quite different from the method of searching from other internet search engines. There are a lot of interesting things which I found while reading this course. One thing that I like a lot was the preparation of the chart form presentation on any topic of interest. It was a very interesting activity and also this activity increases my knowledge a lot as my classmates present different topics on charts in a very unique manner.

During this course, a lot of things seem to be very challenging for me. Understanding various concepts and then applying them practically such as understanding of big six methods to do research and then applying them practically to conduct research assigned at the end of this course was very challenging but at the same time, it also proves to be very beneficial in increasing my knowledge and helping me to do the practical application of this knowledge. I will not forget this course and our doctor who teaches us so well and play an important role in creating our skills and also who is very kind, friendly and encouraging. One of the things which I liked about my doctor was that he makes use of innovative teaching methods and he knows how to engage the whole class effectively. Now our semester has come to an end and now it’s time to start a new semester and learn a new course, but I wish that we could have more opportunities to learn this subject next semester to learn more and more new things. I would like to suggest my juniors who are coming this semester choose this course if they want to learn new and innovative things.

So, I am looking forward to doing a further practical application of the knowledge and skills that I learned in the information literacy course .
