Transformation In Les Miserables Movie

Les Miserables tells the story of Jean Valjean an ex-convict. He was sent to jail for stealing a loaf of bread for his sick young niece. After nine years in prison, he is let on parole and sets out to find a job. Due to him being an ex-convict he is unable to find work. While walking around on the streets he is invited in by a bishop, Bishop Myriel. Myriel has dinner made for Jean and they eat. Afterward, Myriel gives Jean a room to sleep in.

Jean though is more interested in the silver that Myriel has so he steals it to sell it to get money to try to start his life back up. Jean is eventually caught before he can sell the silver he stole and is brought to Myriel with the silver. The guards show Myriel the stolen silver and say that Jean claimed that he gave it to him. Myriel says that he did give Jean the silver and gives him the best item the candlesticks as well, to the surprise of both Jean and the guards.

Jean sells the silver and goes on to take the name Monsieur Madaline and runs a very successful factory.

The act of Bishop Myriel inspires and leads Jean to become a better person. He goes on to do such acts as taking on Cossette. So he goes to Fantine after he had to fire her. On her deathbed, she asks him to take care of her daughter as she is an illegitimate child and is being taken care of by the Thenardiers.

At the same time, he hears about someone who has been prosecuted under his identity for his previous crimes. Jean goes to the trial where he confesses that this man is not Jean Valjean and confesses that he is Jean Valjean. Upon that is he imprisoned for violating his parole and for his past crimes. He eventually escapes and then rescues Cossette from the Thenardiers and he raises her as his own. Their life is interrupted as Javert, his parole officer has found out that Jean escaped prison alive and he is searching for him. They go into hiding at the Petit-Picpus Convent where they live out their life as Cossette grows into a young maiden.

Cossette falls in love with a young man named Marius Pontmercy. However, before the relationship can truly begin, Jean is found by the Thenardiers and captured. They attempt to extort him for money but Marius decides to intervene and save Jean. Shortly after this, Jean decides that he and Cossette are no longer safe in Paris, due to Javert and the French Revolution. Jean plans their escape to England. After learning this, Marius is devastated and decides to join the Revolution and finds that his friends are with the ABC Society, which he joins. When he joins the Society, he finds Javert captured for attempting to join the militia as a spy. After Jean learns that Marius and Cosette are in love, he abandons the idea of escaping to England and joins the ABC Society as well. Upon joining the Society he volunteers to execute Javert but instead he lets him go free. Valjean returns to the Society just in time to find them being overrun by the police and army. He finds a wounded Marius and takes him down into the sewers away from the battle to recover. While escaping in the sewer, at the exit they find Javert. Javert decides to let them go. Marius and Jean escape the battle.

There is a major transformation in this movie. With one act of kindness, Bishop Muriel turned around Jean Valjean’s life and made him go on to live an amazing life that impacted so many people. The first one who felt Jean’s kindness was Fantine. Even though he fires Fantine he goes to her as she is dying and swears to take care of her daughter Cossette. But before he can do so he hears about a man being falsely convicted under his name. As he is a better man he goes and confesses that he is truly Jean Valjean even even though they have witnesses who know the truth and who are lying for him. These acts are completely selfless and show that Myriel and his act of kindness came through. And after all of this Jean continued to do great and selfless things such as saving Cossette, letting Javert go, and saving Marius, and bringing him to safety. The influence of God through Myriel Jean changed. This shows how the influence of God through people is truly amazing and transformative.
