One of these Filipino works is the movie, Kimmy Dora, which is a Korean-based plot. K-dramas have made a very big impact to the Filipinos. As a result, they became very hooked to it, up to the present.

Third, most of the K-drama do not need strict parental guidance and better to be watched compared to American series because the former uses foul words, shows violence and love scenes seldom. Last, the plot is light, the characters are promising, the episodes are short and the emotional connections with the viewers are created by K-drama.

Most fan boys and fan girls are really into K-drama. They often watch it which brings certain effects that they may experience in life, specifically, in their studies and their general weighted average (GWA). Therefore, the researchers want to know if K-drama affects the academic performance of students and compare the effects to the general weighted average (GWA) of the students who watch and do not watch K-drama.

Korean dramas or K-dramas, nowadays, are being popular to most teenagers. Korean personalities, Korean culture and Korean language also became prominent to Filipino teenagers. These youths are having so much fun in learning Korean culture and watching K-drama, as well, which cause the tendency of being addicted to it. Some have dreams in going to Korea to see their oppas. In addition, most people who engage in watching K-drama are commonly high school students.

The researchers pursue this study to help everyone, specifically, the students to understand if K-drama has a significant effect in their studies, especially, if they are addicted in watching it. The researchers also want to know if there are differences in the academic performance of the students who watch and do not watch K-drama. This study can also help students know if watching K-drama contributes on their studies, they need to lessen the duration of time they spend in watching or they have to totally stop watching it because of the negative effects it might bring to their life.

The study will compare the effects of watching and not watching K-drama in a student's academic performance. It will only focus if K-drama has an impact to the academic performance of the students specifically their general weighted average (GWA). The needed information will be obtained through a survey among the respondents of both genders and same year level for the first quarter of the academic year 2017-2018. The survey will be limited to the Grade 10 respondents in Justice Cecilia Muñoz Palma High School located at Molave St, Payatas, Quezon City.

Hallyu or the rise of Korean wave is the rapid spread of Korean popular culture in the form of Korean drama, dance, music, as well as fans clubs for the Korean stars. Hallyu is the term Korean wave written in Chinese characters, said to have been derived from the title of an album compilation of Korean popular song that become popular in China during the 1990's. Hallyu was defined as a fad or a craze and an intense and widely shared enthusiasm for something. Korean dramas have an interesting plot and fun to watch. Teenagers love to watch K- drama because they can watch their favourite actors and actresses (Sonny Boy Tembor, 2016). Also, Korean drama is very addictive. Once an individual has started watching K-drama, he/she tend to forget all the important things you need to do and instead of watching just one episode, the excitement leads him/her to watch more than just one episode. A learner needs to get 60 (transmuted to 75 based on the transmutation table) to pass a specific learning area. The teachers will be using the new grading system for K to 12 and only has 3 major components writer works, performance task, and quarterly assessment replacing the knowledge, process, understanding, and product grading system of the previous K to 12.

Igno and Ceñidoza stated that there is a fast rise of Korean culture that consists of K- drama, K-Pop, and Korean culture which goes with the flow of other popular culture from other successful countries such as Mexico, Japan and China. One of its popular composition is the K-drama which captures the attention of most of the youths especially the Filipinos. However, this prominent mini-series has a negative side to the student who are into it. It may affect the academic performance of the students dealing with the new grading system implemented by the Department of Education in K to 12.

The popularity of K-drama has many effects on the people who are into watching it. In the study of Magtortor (2013) entitled "The Influence of Korean Wave to the Filipino Youth," the youths, especially Filipinos, are the one who are greatly influenced by the Korean Wave. It is said that the new generation is different and they are curios that results to discover new things around them. These youths are exposed to the different popular kinds and genres of music, television dramas and also in their taste of fashion. The change of the taste of music, movies and fashion from traditional to new and futuristic, became more exciting in the eyes of the Filipino Youth.

In public places such, malls, stores, while riding a jeepney and even to recreational places such as parks and also to tourist places, the effects of Korean Wave in the Filipino especially to the Filipino Youth are clearly seen especially in schools which has the Korean Sensations aura almost everywhere. Also, it is noticeable that students are listening and singing songs in Hangul, the language of Koreans, and even introduced and exposed the Korean celebrities to other students.

In addition, it is stated in the study of Agalep, Carvajal, et. al (2016) entitled "Beyond the "Fad": Understanding Hallyu in the Philippines" that the rapid spread of K-pop really fits to the modern world and has been accepted its K-pop civilization to all 21st generation people. As a result of this, many schools in the Philippines have also conquered the k-pop music, and it was said that this k-pop generation was caused by globalization through the use of internet. That is why from all the social media sites, events and happenings in the K-pop music world were posted and updated there.

The researchers made questions concerning about what are the psychological effects of K-pop and how it will affect the student's academic performance inside the school. The researchers gathered concepts regarding pop culture (how pop music is accepted and talked by the people) and fandom theory (how fandom was utilized and enacted throughout people) to further analyze and to complete this research. The study contributed for better understanding of people about the significance of k-pop on the fans, and how it will affect people's lives.

As explained by Joseph S. It expounds the deeper root of Hallyu's staying power in the Philippines as well as the challenges it possess through the concepts of cultural imperialism.

Hallyu in the Philippines is not just a mere cultural phenomenon that will suddenly vanish. It shows the identity of the Filipinos, its history as well as its cultural weakness and strength. Korean wave might be popular, but still it cannot escape criticisms. They say that embracing Korean wave is setting aside Filipino material culture. However, that holds true for some but we can find actual benefits from it. Filipinos can learn a lot from Hallyu - the way Koreans promote themselves and believe in their culture that we can make our culture in the same level as others as well as it can further develop people to people relation (Igno & Ceñidoza, 2016).

Magtortor stated that mostly, the influenced people by K-drama are the youths. This influenced is seen through their behavior in public places specifically in school where they always interact with other of the students. The researchers' study is similar to Magtortor's in ways such the researchers used Grade 10 students as the participants/respondents in the study.

Agalep, Carvajal et. al also considered K-Pop as one of the factors affecting the students' academic performance. The study included the psychological questions to the high school students which they analyzed to have significant findings. In their research of Agalep, Carvajal, et. al, students' academic performance was their basis if K-Pop affect their studies. However, the difference this study from the researchers' study was that Agalep, Carvajal, et. al's included psychological questions while the researchers asked basic subjective questions.
