In the end however, all of the coping skills are great for maintaining a normal life with a mental disability. Finding a church or organization that accepts and understands you can be beneficial for many people with disabilities. Learning about different religions and spiritual beliefs can help a person with special needs understand others around them in a way that they understand. It is very important for every member of the special needs community to have a healthy support system. The greatest and strongest support system that any person can have in their life is family and with those with disabilities it is important to have that and can help you cope with everyday struggles.

Creating friendships and relationships while having a disability can be very hard, but when established and maintained, they can also be of great help to promote socialization and proper social etiquette. Although many people with special needs don't like psychiatrists for various reasons, it is important to have them in your support because they have a deeper knowledge of your diagnosis and symptoms.

Counselors and therapists are great for everyone on the disability spectrum and especially for those who lack a strong family life or unable to maintain friendships. Although not every person with a disability needs medication, it is a very important part of life for many people with various mental disability diagnosis. People with anxiety disorders need medication to help balance their anxiety levels and calm their thoughts. Patients on the Autism spectrum often need different types of medication to help with various symptoms that affect only certain people. Paranoid schizophrenics and those with Bipolar 1 always have to be medicated at one point or another due to their inability to process and control their thoughts.

When used properly, medication can be a part of an everyday routine for a better and normal life. People with disabilities often resort to having multiple approaches of creativity as their biggest way of coping. Visual art approaches such as painting and photography can help express their personal thoughts and opinions when they are unable to speak them. Acting and singing promote self-esteem and confidence in ways that normal life cannot provide. Many creative approaches can lead to discoveries about their own personal strengths and weaknesses. Certain activities that may seem non-creative to those without disabilities are perfect for those with disabilities such as working on computers or organizing books at a library.

At the end of the day, all of these examples are perfect ways of coping with a disability. Even though it is not necessary to do all of them, it is highly encouraged to have and do most of them. Having coping skills will increase a person's happiness and ability to live in the world successfully. The main priority for all of the different skills is the hope that the person will be to live and function independently. Asking for help and having coping skills does not mean you are weak, it only means that you are mature enough to understand that everyone needs help, just some people need a little more than some.
