The Greatest Achievement In My Life

It was a week after The Great earthquake hit an aftershock came into my life. Shiva Sir (Our Extracurricular Activities Head) came straight to our class and said “Two days later there is a Municipal Level Quiz Competition and you should lead the team representing our school”. I was good at academics and was bounded by the course books, homework and examination. The matters outside these were not in my hands.

After two days of laborious preparation gazing around every public service commission books and newspapers now was the day of execution.

Answering the two specific questions along with many others was my greatest achievement that changed the way of my thinking. One of them was “What should be added to y to get x?” Every other team was answering like they were variables and can be supposed etc. like that. But I simply answered “x-y”. And it was the correct answer. After the quiz was over The Principal from another school congratulated and praised me for thinking with such simplicity.

This changed the perspective how I see the Mathematics. I used to believe that Mathematics was all about solving problems and getting answer but it was about thinking logically and perceiving the world. Later that year I participated in Mathematics Olympiad and was District second while studying in grade 9 and was selected for national level and later got associated with Sodalitas de’ Mathematics and worked there for two years as Executive and Treasurer. After that day I started connecting mathematics with life and formulas with nature.

Three schools were at same points 18 and this was the final question of the competition and we would get the question if it was passed by every other team. A picture was shown and the question was “Identify the personality”. I immediately got that was Dr. Chiranjibi Nepal, recently appointed governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. I thought it was simple question and we would not get the chance to answer it but we got the chance to answer it and finally we won it. Tedious work of gazing over all news papers that were two weeks old paid off well here. My leadership and our teamwork was highly praised as we were participating for the first time and succeeded on winning.

This competition developed the feeling of leadership and teamwork within me and after a month after this I was elected as the President of Junior Red Cross Society. We as a team won many competitions ranging from municipal to zonal level.

This inspired me to be someone out of the box and encouraged me to study the society, nation and nature which cannot be taken from those course books. It taught me that Hardwork Always Beats Talent and always encouraged me to do hardwork as it never goes in vain. To sum up, this competition helped to discover me in myself and helped me to expand my horizon and made me who I am today. So, this was the greatest achievement in my life.
