Ford Model T Car History

The Ford Model T was not the very first car, but it was the very first car to revolutionize United States as it swept away the entire country from horse powered wagons to engine powered gasoline vehicles. The Model T was a very cost-effective vehicle which only costed $825. In today's standards, that is $18,000. $825 is very little money for a car. But back then that was considered to be a lot of money. The Model T has changed transportation forever.

The Model T has a 2.9 liter inline 4-cylinder engine, which produces 20hp.

The first Model T was produced on October 1st, 1908. Through 1908 to 1927, Ford was able to produce somewhat around 15 million Model Ts making it the first ever mass production vehicle. The car was built for the average person making it the perfect daily vehicle to commute. The Model T was made in a new style of metal making, inspired by French race car makers. It made the car only 1,200 pounds or 0.6 tons, not just making the car lighter, but also stronger.

It could go as fast as 40 miles per hour and could run on gasoline or hemp-based fuel. When oil prices dropped in the early 20th century, it made gasoline more affordable.

Ford kept costs low so that the engineers would be able to create interchangeable parts that lessened waste, saved time, and made it easier for workers that were unskilled to put together the cars. The moving assembly line produced thousands of cars by 1914 every week. The River Rouge Ford plant workers casted over 10,000 Model T cylinder blocks in a day.

This was located in Dearborn, Michigan and was done by 1924. Americans wanted something greater than a secure and affordable car in the 1920s. The Model T came out only in one color which was black. Americans wanted a variety of choices. Along with speed and luxury, they wanted style too. Eventually everyone's tastes had changed, which resulted in this era to come to an end. The last Model T went off the assembly line on May 26, 1927.

The strategy of driving a Model T had nearly turned into an under-appreciated skill. The Model T was offered in a few body styles, including a five-situate visiting vehicle, a two-situate runabout, and a seven-situate town vehicle. All bodies were mounted on a uniform 100-inch-wheelbase chassis. In many models the motor was begun by a hand wrench, which enacted a magneto associated with the flywheel, however after 1920 a few models were furnished with battery-controlled starters.
