"Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower”- Steve Jobs. Motivation is the desire to do things, and everyone's source of motivation differs. It's hard to stay cheery and bright when everyone is moping, right? So, keeping others around me happy improves my mood to a certain degree and makes me happy. I also get a lot of self satisfaction knowing I could have brightened someone's day or have made them laugh. Who doesn't want to make others happy? The world would be a much better place if everyone could smile and make each other laugh. I am motivated most strongly by making others happy or brightening their day.
Imagine this, your five year old cousin starts bawling uncontrollably at the television, crying over an episode of Bubble Guppies, or something irrelevant like that. Her eyes overflow with tears and become rimmed red. Her mouth opens in a loud cry, and yet you sit there, dumbfounded, wondering what to do. Your eyes start to well up with tears, you bite your lip. No! This can't happen, you will not cry with your 5 year old baby cousin about Bubble Guppies, you think to yourself. But, still, those traitor tears leave your eyes, and that pent up building feeling finally is released, and you start to wail along with your five year old baby cousin at an episode of Bubble Guppies. Later on, she started giggling at the same episode, and looking at her giggling I started laughing uncontrollably. This is a perfect example of how her mood impacted mine. Certain emotions in others trigger the same emotions in me, therefore I want to keep everyone around me happy, so I can stay happy.
Also, making others laugh, or making others happy gives me a sense of self satisfaction or self fulfillment. Every little thing I do that could brighten someone's day or make them happy gives me a warm feeling in my heart, Making someone laugh and be happy is my equivalent to doing a really important charity deed or saving someone's life. The feeling is just irreplaceable. it has a rush, just like going skydiving, but there's a calming peace to it as well. Charles Dickens once said "No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another."
This quote proves my point about giving happiness and it resulting in self satisfaction, because lightening the burdens of others makes you feel fulfilled. There's just a pang of pleasure, a brief moment when you congratulate yourself, you tell yourself you did good. In Maya Angelou's story about Mrs. Flowers and Marguerite, Marguerite always wanted to make Mrs. Flowers smile for her, or be happy because it satisfies Marguerite as well. Marguerite also gets a feeling of self fulfillment making others happy. Everyone should want to make each other happy because it gives them a sense of self satisfaction/fulfillment.
To conclude my essay, everyone's motivations may vary, but my motivation in life is to make others happy around me. I love making others happy because their mood affects mine, and every time I make someone's day by making them smile or laugh, I get a feeling of self fulfillment. I take control of my life by surrounding myself with good vibes and influencing the people I'm around to have good feelings too. Remember, surround yourself with happiness, you don't deserve any less than that.
