Thank You Letter for Obtaining Masters Degree Scholarship

I have been a full-time Registered Nurse at CAMH for 3 years, and have worked Unit 2-3 (SZUB), the General Psychiatry Unit (GPU) the Acute Care Unit (ACU). I was also a New Graduate Nurse in the Emerge and Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU). I am currently enrolled as a Part-time Graduate student with Athabasca University, and I am taking the program 100% online. I already possess three university degrees, which are a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Bachelor of Education and an Honors Bachelor of Arts with a Political Science Major, Health Studies Major and Anthropology Minor.

Additionally, I earned the Canadian Nurses Association's Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing Certification.

As a professional a Masters degree will help me in my own development to be a better person and to grow as a professional. A Masters degree also opens doors within my profession as a nurse, and within the organization I am employed, and its benefits are amplified by my own educational and employment history.

It will allow me to make professional choices that may not have been possible if I did not obtain a Masters Degree in Nursing

I have always been drawn to nursing as a profession, as well as mental health and addictions. It took me longer to get into nursing because I had a lot of adversity in my life that made it challenging to get to where I am today, and it is from this history that allows me to relate to people that are going through challenging life situations.

I have always seen nursing as profession, but also as a way of life, in which you get to work with people to help them get challenging life situations, health changes and struggles, and to develop therapeutic relationships that help to enable trust, healing, recovery and hope. I believe that nursing found me, and I am glad we connected.

I have always wanted to pursue a Masters degree at the Graduate Level. For me obtaining higher education is self-fulling and brings with it a sense of accomplishment of working towards and finishing what you have planned out for yourself in your educational career that is truly rewarding. Personally, I would say that I have always been a life-long learner and have always felt the need to try new things, to test myself and push myself into accomplishing my own goals and dreams.

I have always been interested in learning more about Mental Health and Addictions especially at a Masters level. I have been trying to choose research topics and essay topics that relate to my work as a staff nurse working on a inpatient psychiatric unit. This year I am working on a Historical and Contemporary Nursing and Issues course and will be taking a Culture and Health Perspectives course that I am excited about taking, as well as a Nursing Inquiry course that will focus on research.

The most challenging aspect of working towards a Masters degree is that life can be stressful for anyone. It is hard to organise a full-time career, while taking courses online, trying to find time for family and friends, worrying about bills, commuting to work, paying bills, trying to make time to keep fit and healthy, and whatever life throws at you. That is why the most challenging aspect of working towards your Masters degree is learning to create a positive life-work balance, learning to de-stress, and find sense to the disorder and chaos that is called life.

I want to say, that I truly appreciate your generous help, and from the bottom of my heart that I cannot thank-you enough. For me just knowing that you don't have to worry about where the money is going to come from to pay for your Masters degree when you already have a mountain of debt that has piled up from being a student for so many years. I cannot thank-you enough and I am beyond grateful for the assistance that you have showed me, and the generous donation that you have also granted my fellow colleagues at the Center for Addiction and Mental Health. This scholarship Is a dream come true for me and will allow me to reduce my stress level, so that I will be able to focus more on my studies and working full-time as a Registered Nurse in psychiatric hospital.
