Lady Macbeth questions his manhood and calls him a coward, she says that if he really wants to be king then he would do whatever it takes to become king because that is what a real man would do. Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth that he has changed his mind and does not want to kill Duncan anymore. Being mad, Lady Macbeth says “When you durst do it....then you were a man” . Macbeth is nervous about what they will have to do and asks her what will happen if they fail, she said that as long as they are smart and brave that they will be successful.

Macbeth and Lady Macbeth experienced many emotions throughout the play, the most common ones they experienced were ambition, fear and guilt. Since the beginning of the story they both have this ambition, this strong wish to take the throne which makes Lady Macbeth manipulate Macbeth into doing what she can not do which includes mostly on killing innocent people they think is in their way. Lady Macbeth feels fear for Macbeth while he does the murders and is scared about anyone suspecting or finding out what they are doing and feels guilt after he does it. ”Heres the smell of the blood still. All the perfumes of Arabia will not sweeten this little hand. This is what Lady Macbeth states while she is sleepwalking showing her guilt. The emotion they felt most in the beginning is ambition because ambition is what triggered the rest of the emotions that they experience. Without ambition and the want to take the throne so bad they would have never have felt fear during the process or the guilt after it was all done. Throughout the middle of the story, the emotion they felt the most was fear because that’s when they started working on their plan. Lastly, the emotion they felt the most throughout the end of the story is guilt because they realized what they did was wrong and that it has destroyed them forever.

Macbeth has multiple desires throughout the story such as wanting to be king and wanting to get the murders over with. “Let not light see my black and deep desires”. Macbeth does not want the world to know what his plans are and his desires. Lady Macbeth is responsible for Macbeth having these desires because she pressures him into thinking that the only way to prove his manhood is through killing Duncan and “earning” his position as king, later on in the story this desire to murder slowly dehumanized him and made him more blood thirsty. Making him more blood thirty drove him to murder people he thought were in his way but actually had nothing to do with what he wants. This makes Lady Macbeth and Macbeth feel guilty because the image of all the innocent people Macbeth has murdered and the blood they had to clean up haunted them both and drove them insane. They both started loosing sleep, they could not think straight, acting suspicious around people without realizing and all of this for the strong desire of taking the throne. This all leads to Lady Macbeths demise because guilt takes over her and mentally destroys her. She starts to sleepwalk because she can no longer sleep the way she used to due to all the murders they have committed that kept coming back to her and she imagined blood on her hands from the murder of Duncan and she went over to the sink to wash her hands but realized that one spot of blood wouldn’t come off and started yelling and complaining about how she doesn’t understand why the spots not coming off which had the doctor that was in the room concerned and confused because they did not know what she was talking about but could tell that she did something frightful that kept her up sleepwalking and does not allow her to sleep, she later on commits suicide.

Lady Macbeth controls Macbeths decisions, his emotions and his desires but guilt takes over her and this contributes to her demise. The quote in the beginning is what Lady Macbeth was yelling about which was the stain of blood not coming off her hands. It shows she’s not in the right state of mind.
