Taylor (2012) claimed that squatter settlements motivate theft of public service and nonstandard behaviour, which is obvious of the various thefts of electricity and water system in these squatting locations. In addition to that it was also argued that these squatter settlements do not have appropriate roadway structure and do not have a correct waste disposal system.

Wastes are thrown indiscriminately into drain channels consequently triggering clogs which may eventually lead to the flooding and disintegration of the area.

"There is no doubt that the dispute existing in between the Trespass Act, where it is a crime to squat, and the Restriction of Actions Act and the Registration of Titles Act, on the other hand, is irreconcilable.
