Romeo's Impulsiveness In Romeo and Juliet Play

Many characters in books have a weakness but Romeo’s is more deadly than death. Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare is a play filled with love. Romeo and Juliet is a tragic love story where the two main characters, Romeo and Juliet, are supposed to be enemies but fall in love. Due to their families' conflict, they can not be together, so they kill themselves because they could not handle being separated from one another. This story in the end is affected by Romeo’s poor, impulsive decisions.

The three conflcits are the rivalary between the Capulets and Montagues and how Romeo disregared this and immediately spoke with Juliet at the party, rushing to Friar Lawrence after meeting Juliet and asking him to marry them, and the forcefulness of love when he rushes to an apothecary, demanding poison, after he is misinformed by Balthasar.

Romeo first impulsive decision of the book is when he sees Juliet at the Capulet party, he rushes toward her.

When he finds a chance to speak with her, he ignores the fact that she is part of Capulet family which is the rival family of Romeo's family the Montegues, ̈If I profane with my unworthiest hand This holy shrine. Romeo is impulsive by talking with her even though she is a part of the rival family. Later on in the party he even boldly asks to kiss her, ̈Then move not while my prayer's effect I take.Thus from my lips by thine my sin is purged.

¨ Romeo makes and impulsive decision because if she had said yes and he was seen kissing her he could have been removed from his family.

Romeo is so obsessed with Juliet that he offers to change his name so they can be together, he also wants to marry her after seeing her for only a few hours. After he meets Juliet, Romeo goes in the middle of the night to to see her, and maybe speak with her. Risking death if the Capulet guards see him, he walks toward the wall of the orchard and stands underneath her balcony. When Juliet comes out and talks about Romeo and his name being their only problem, Romeo daringly says that he will gladly change his name for her; ̈I take thee at thy word. Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized. Henceforth I never will be Romeo.¨ This is a very bad impulse by Romeo as he would change his name so he could be with a girl who he has just met. They soon later fall in love and again Romeo has another bad impulse. Which is that he rushes to Friar Lawrence to ask him to perform the marriage ceremony for Juliet and him. Although the priest warns Romeo about being so impulsive, 'These violent delights have violent ends', he thinks that marrying the two may help to end the feuding of the two families. Romeo and Juliet are married after knowing each other for only a few hours.

Romeo rushes to an apothecary, demanding poison, when he is misinformed by Balthasar that Juliet is dead. Romeo gets the posion he wants, because the apothecary is poor. Then, Romeo runs back to the Capulet catacombs. Later in the scene he encounters Paris, 'Wilt thou provoke me? Then have at thee', and he kills Paris. Romeo is being impulsive for killing Paris for no good reason. Then as the play continues, Romeo finds Juliet and believes she is dead, he does not think through things. For, even though he sees that her face does not look lifeless, 'Why art thou yet so fair?'. He does not think twice before he decides to kill himself. Even through his emotions, Romeo acts impulsively. Romeo has another impulsive act that is lead by ture love when he kills himself when he is deluded by the Balthasar.
