When I first came to France in 2010, it was the moment that changed everything in my life. It was one of the sad moment in my life. I realized that I left behind my country, my home, my friends, my school and my relatives. I was really sad. I left behind everything that I used to. That meant that I would be out of my comfort zone. I had to adapt to my new life overnight.
I was terrified because I had to learn a new language and I didn’t know a word of French. It was completely different from my mother tongue. I was only 12 years old. I had a lot to learn and understand. I didn’t know anything of France. I wasn’t prepared for that change. I felt like I lost everything. I didn’t know what to do because I don’t know anyone in this country apart my uncle.
I thought that the biggest challenge I had to face, it would be the school. I had no one to help me, I had to do everything by myself.
How am I supposed to make new friends when I didn’t understand a single word?. I was freaking out in the airport. I understood that I would be alone. I thought about the cultural and traditional differences between India and France. I only knew about my country, I had never been in other countries and I also knew right away that it was a bad idea.
My dreams, my goals, my ambitions and everything was suddenly put in a large question mark. I was unable to think or guess what was going to happen and what my life would be like. My life turned upside down and I was completely stuck—I was unaware that at some point in the future, my life would be a complete mess. I noticed that my life was divided into two periods: before 2010 and after 2010. my life before 2010 reminded me of what I lost in that moment and after 2010 reminded me of what I could do and could not do. I was constantly worried and comparing both periods. I had always thought I was going to stay in India but guess what I realized that life was a crazy thing and we couldn’t have what we want.
Good or bad, life was made up of unexpected twists and turns. Honestly, before that moment, I had never experienced any changes in my life, it was boring and monotonous, but that moment changed my perception about life, I had to be strong and ready to face everything because anything can happen, anytime.
