Throughout the book, mostly every person Rebecca(the author of the book) came across, they talked about how generous and kind she was. For example, when henrietta was sick and she needed blood to be donated, her cousin Emmett, his brother and some friends, who she had feed and given shelter. All of the men when they found of she she was sick were willing to give almost whatever, because of how she helped them(Skloot 83).Also when she knew that she was getting ready to pass, she told her sister, gladys to make sure her kids were ok; In her last moments of life, she is thinking about other people(Skloot 85). In these few instances of many, Henrietta showed the character she had and how good of a person she was; This left an impression on people that will be carried with her name forever.

Deborah, her daughter, was immortal not physically, but spiritually. She was immortal because her family believes that she went to heaven when she died. They also think of Henrietta in this way. Deborah also believed that she was going to heaven and that she would be immortal there. In the book Deborah says,” I just hope it's nice and calm there. But I tell you one thing, I don't want to be immortal if it mean living forever, cause then everybody else die and get old in front of you while you stay the same, and that’s just sad.”(Lacks 310). In This particular quote, Deborah is talking about how she wishes haven would be, as well as how she wouldn't want to be immortal, physically.Deborah was immortal and free when she died. she was really stressed with the book and finding things out about her mother, but when she died she has a smile on her face, and arms across her chest(Skloot 308). At that point she was truly free, immortal, and with her mother; a place she always wanted to be

In final analysis, both Henrietta and Deborah achieved immortality in similar and different ways. They both were spiritually, but only Henrietta achieved it literally. Her cells were taken, but have used all around the world bettering science. She also made a name for here by the way she carried herself, and how she treated people. Lastly They both were thought to go to heaven achieving immortality in a spiritual way.
