Why the North won the Civil War?

There are several theories and observations as to the outcome of the civil war. The book presents to us a number of essays that points many factors as to why the North won the civil war. The American Civil War was a separatist conflict between the United States Federal government also known as the "Union" and the Southern slave states that declared their secession forming the Confederate States of America, led by President Jefferson Davis.

In my point of view, from all the theories that the book presented, it was the personality of Lincoln and Grant that made the North triumphant in this battle.

According to Jim Grant, both [Lincoln and Grant] were better suited to their jobs both in temperament and competency than anyone in the South. Some would almost suggest that Lincoln and Grant being on the Southern side could have reversed the result. Aside from the North having advantages in materials, supplies, and a larger navy, what they have is an experienced government with great leaders.

Lincoln's strength and willingness to fight on in the end led him to success and that commitment is what makes him perhaps the greatest President of all time (Social Studies).

Abraham Lincoln was the best weapon the North had. He was a great leader that is determined to save the Union and he was even willing to sacrifice his personal opinion on slavery. Quoting Abraham Lincoln, "My paramount objective in this struggle is to save the union, and it is not either to save or destroy slavery.

If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves, I would do it; if I could save it by freeing some and leaving others alone, I would also do that.
