Oscar Wilde was an Irish writer and poet. After writing in different forms throughout the 1880s, he became one of London’s most popular playwrights in the early 1890s. Today he is remembered for his epigrams, his novel The Picture of Dorian Gray, his plays, as well as the circumstances of his imprisonment and early death.
Oscar Wilde was one of the most important authors of the late 19th century. His work was marked by its wit, elegance, and insight into human nature. Wilde was also a pioneer in the development of the modern drama, and his plays are still performed today. Though his life was cut short by tragedy, Wilde left a lasting legacy as one of the most important writers of his time.
